It will be like old times today in massive Neyland Stadium. Capacity crowd all revved up following an afternoon of meditating and consuming liberal amounts of adult beverages. Even the kickoff call-in show won't seem so ignorant today. Tennessee can achieve a great victory if things mostly go right for the Volunteers. No turnovers, no break downs in special teams and the defense must get on and off the field and not allow Florida to hog the ball with time consuming drives. My main concern is that Muschamp has been given much ammunition to get his team fired up today. From the BS about not charging the field that has been plastered all over the papers and the internet to most all of the talking heads on ESPN picking UT, the Gayturd head corch won't lack for motivational tools. Surviving the first quarter is job one for this Tennessee team. Which team has been conditioned and prepared physically for this kind of game? We probably find that out in the fourth quarter. Which pair of coordinators can make the right adjustments on the fly and at halftime? We will find that out tonight. Can Tyler Bray beat a top 20 team? We will know that before the sun rises tomorrow. Up in the press box, I like Josh Conklin better than whoever the Gayturds choose to be their eyes in the sky. I really believe Conklin is the biggest single factor and reason why the Vol defense has been able to make quick adjustments in the first two games after yielding a few big plays and yardage in the first quarters. He has been a defensive coordinator, he sees the whole field, the big picture. Tennessee football is relevant again. After the last few years of Chubby Checkerboard and Boy Kiffin's disasterous recruiting, just being relevant is a positive development. Win or lose today, Tennessee is on the way back, but a win accelerates the process considerably. After Florida's mediocre season last year, they are looking for the same acceleration. It's going to be no holds barred, bare knuckles out there tonight, just like old times! Edited by LonzoVol, Sep 15 2012, 07:33 AM.

Good post Lonzo and I think your points turned valid about all the extra motivation Florida had. You were also right about the atmosphere. I heard kick off call in show and the vol walk were more packed than maybe ever. A caller called this morning and thought that we got beat in the sky. You referred to Josh Conclin being our eye in the sky. I never have really thought about that stuff. But he says SEC teams have the greatest in the business and that's why we fall off in the second half against those teams. I don't know if he knew what he was talking about but I found it interesting. |

Ghost, I feel certain that Conklin saw what was going on and gave Sal a heads up. I doubt the coaches were caught off guard but at that point, it's up to the players to get where they are supposed to be, be sharp on their defensive checks and not get fooled by play action fakes and such. I had a bad feeling at halftime but thought that Florida, not Tennessee, might run out of gas in the fourth. It was right the reverse. One thing I hope for now is that all they hype about Bray and others leaving for the NFL early stops now. Bray still hasn't beaten a ranked team and he looked god awful. That stupid grounding penalty was a back breaker. Too much back slapping and press clippings readings going on last week. Now it's time to go to work and still have a good season. Florida will beat South Carolina and the game with Georgia should be a real war. Tennessee, on the other hand, has work to do. None of these players needs to go to the NFL, they all need to play in college next year. I hope that talk stops completely. From what I saw yesterday, Tennessee has two guys who could start for the Florida defense, McCullers and A.J. Johnson, that's it. |

Maggitt is a speed and quickness linebacker. I fear that the turf toe injury affected his play and his ability to use his strengths in this game. |

Maggitt is about 250 now, he's not just speed and quickness. Kid has the power to bang with anyone, too. His problem is he has a tendency to play out of control, largely because he's still pretty green in the first place compounded by playing in a new position this year. He just plays full speed, when he bites on a fake he's done. He did that alot last night. |

Maggitt and AJ are 19 year old kids. They are going to make their share of mistakes, but they will only get better. They are the best that we have at their positions. |
