Hubbs has not sensed any tension or fear in the head coach or the football team this week. And as he notes, this year's week leading up to the game isn't that different from last year. Excerpt from Volquest: As these Vols prepare for Saturday's match-up with the Florida Gators, they ironically find themselves in a very familiar place. It might not feel very familiar to fans, given the fact that the team is ranked for the first time since September 1, 2008. It might not feel very familiar given it's ESPN Gameday's first trip to Knoxville since the Auburn game in 2004. A year ago, Dooley and his Vols were in a similar situation. But while fans bask in the joys of being a favorite and in the national publicity the program is getting, the players and the coaches have been very normal this week. Head coach Derek Dooley hasn't appeared tense or tight. His players have been like they have been for the last couple of months --- mature on the practice field, confident off of it. This week really shouldn't be uncomfortable for Tennessee because for the Vols this is not virgin territory. In fact, they essentially were in this exact same spot a year ago. We forget that, because so much happened to Dooley and the Vols after last September. But one year ago, offensive excitement overflowed just like this week. The similarities are uncanny. |
