Thanks to all you guys. I'm going to try and fax this to Tux this afternoon so he can post the copy of the note. Again, I believe Coach Dooley is trying to do things the right way and be a positive influence for his players and an admirable ambassador for the University of Tennessee. As Phil says, it is ultimately about wins and losses and I understand that. I believe he will get those wins and the program will be on its way back to where it rightfully belongs. :powerT:

Great read, I too am a fan of Dooley and think he is the right mix of brains and balls for our program. Looks like we are headed in the right direction, a big win Satdee would net us s few good prospects for sure.

I think the glass is half empty crowd is viewing Saturday's game as a "must win" for Dooley to save his own job. I prefer to think that this could be his signature win so far, and this year has proven to be very positive from both a coaching and player standpoint. Dooley's confidence going into the game Saturday doesn't appear to be overhyped swagger and attitude, but rather a confident demeanor that seems to be rubbing off on the players too.

Have to agree with Warner - Dooley appears to be the right man for the job. Others will disagree, but so far, he has done the right things to get back on track to where we used to be.

In the days leading up to the NCST lid lifter, I sent a letter of encouragement to Coach Dooley. I basically told him that all Tennessee media is not like Jimmy HiYams and that the knowledgeable fans who understood the absolutely massive re=building job that he faced when he arrived in Knoxville were still very much in full support of his work. I really didn't expect a response, but got one in the mail today. I was impressed. As busy as he must be with the Florida game coming up and big visit weekend coming up, he still took a couple of minutes to dictate a response. Here is what he said:

Dear W.E.,

Thank you for your kind letter. I appreciate your support of our program at the University of Tennessee and most of all the support for our players.

The tough years are behind us and I am confident that we have built the right foundation that will lead us to great success in the future.

Thank you again for your continued support.

GO VOLS!

Sincerely,
Derek Dooley

He signed it personally with a pen with orange ink!

I don't think it is any secret that I have been pulling for this young coach to be successful. I have always believed he is a class act and a tremendous front man and representative for Tennessee football. I still believe he has grown over the very difficult last two years and that he can move forward and become one of the top coaches in all of college football. He is on the threshold of proving he can do the job. The jury, of course, may still be out for some and I understand that position. For my part, I hope he gets a signature win on Saturday and never looks back! :powerT:
Good job on the letter. I'm sure CDD knows that most Vol fans are in his corner, but it doesn't hurt for him to hear it from true VFLs. I like the comment that the tough years are behind us. Most negateers just can't wrap their brain around how bad things had really gotten. I am thankful that he had the cajones to take this job when others just didn't have the guts to try. I'm looking at you Will Muschamp. Dooley has awakened the sleeping giant and the Gators are about to find out the hard way.
