Situation 1 - Florida leads 22-20 with 40 seconds remaining, it is 4th and 8 with the ball on the Florida 35.
  • Palardy is having confidence issues, but has the leg
  • Brodus seems cool and accurate, but that distance is on the outside of his range.
  • The passing game is your bread and butter, get the first and you are in field goal range of Brodus.
  • Do some sort of fake with special teams

Situation 2 - Florida leads 27 to 21 with 5 minutes to go. Tennessee's defense has been stiff all through the second half after adjustments. It is 4th and 2 at the Florida 45.
  • Pound the rock even though we haven't shown much success this year.
  • Pin them deep with a punt for field position, and rely on your defense to give you the ball back.
  • Play action, then Bray to CP or Hunter in the end zone ... again, putting it the hands of your playmakers

Situation 3 - Tennessee leads 34 to 32 with under a minute to go. Florida has the ball on Tennessee's 47, and it is 4th and 15.
  • Play soft zone ... now remember what our zone coverage has looked like with both NC State and GSU
  • Play man coverage and blitz, keeping a couple back to cover the underneath routes
  • Play man coverage and bring blitzkrieg to Driskell.

By the way, in case it isn't obvious, I'm focusing on three weak areas that the Vols have demonstrated this year ... and I'm wondering about the confidence in the fan base.

Burning Man, 2009 FOREVER

Situation 1: No chance I'm kicking a field goal. I would not, under any circumstances other than being ahead by 40 points, allow Palardy to ever kick a football again. No way. I'd be really tempted to do a fake field goal in this game, largely because I think Muschamp is a moron and would try to block the kick so it would be open. More likely than not, though...I'd run a pick and try to hit JH or Rivera for 10 yards in the flat (but I'd also have CP going over the top). I'd risk the offensive PI on the pick play.

Situation 2: do I have any timeouts? If I have 2 or 3, I kick (this is the one situation where I'd have Palardy in there most likely, he's actually not bad punting). If I have one or zero, I go for it....same type play as in Situation 1. Pick the guy covering the slot receiver, have one of the two amigos deep.

Situation 3: blitzkrieg. We will live and die by it this year, and I'm good with that.

Situation I Gotta try the field goal with Palardy
Situation II Play action to go for the win (might depend on time outs but they have a good punter so I'll go with play action)
Situation III Play man and blitz

Very interesting problems, Rev! I'll take a shot at 'em...

1) C. Get the first down and inside the range of Brodus. If you miss you're toast, but at a 52 yard kick I'm not going to even risk Palardy. Now, if it was a little closer...say ball on the 30 instead of the 35...I might consider the risk. Probably not though, given his performance in the GSU game. If it came down to that shorter kick I might actually risk Brodus extending his range instead of Palardy being accurate!

2) C, with a modification. I would rather take a shorter route over the middle to Rivera for the first down. This was the toughest problem for me to make a choice on. If I can't go with Rivera, I'll still take my chances on CP or Hunter in the End Zone. Had the ball been on the UT 45, I'd have punted as a Lizard field goal puts it at a 2 score game.

3) B. Pressure but try to have some coverage as well. If the Vols have been getting to Driskell regularly all game, then send the house.

Again, great problems!

Easy situations

1. C Pass

2. Definately Punt

3. Man coverage and blitz at least two

1. pass. Palardy is unreliable at best, disastrous under pressure. Gayturds defense would go for the block and might end up with a huge play to score. Best not to risk another humiliating defeat to them. Again. At home. For eight in a row. When they are down and we should be able to beat them.

2. "Bread & butter" says pass & score for the win. Onside kick and try to score again with a big pass play. Rub their damn noses in it. Change this game from the perceived "Dooley must win to save his job" to his signature win.

3. Like coach Yoast said in 'Remember the Titans' - " I don't want them to gain *another yard!* *You blitz... all... night!*

Situation 1 - Go for it with passing game. Don't have confidence in Parlardy. I would stake the teams fate on our bread and butter.

Situation 2 - Play action to CP or Hunter. I think we will find running tough even if we had a quality SEC back against Fla.

Situation 3 - Play man coverage and keep a couple back for underneath routes…also helps to support if Driskell runs for it.

I didn't look at the other answers...or yours for that matter

Situation 1: You've got to go for it....look for something to the tight end unless there a blitz showing. Audible to a screen pass if there is.

Situation 2: Play action and look for Hunter long

Situation 3: Bring the house

You always ask yourself, "What gives me the best chance to win?"

#1--4th and 8. You go for it on offense. You put it in your best players hands.

#2--punt.

#3--Blitz with man under zone. Need spy on Driskel. If you blitz with man coverage, he can wiggle out and run it for a 1st down. Make him throw accurately for 15 yards.

1 go for it
2 punt
3 I blitz but thats mostly based on emotion. Tired of giving first downs in those situations playing soft.
