I'm really shocked. I thought that eventually they would align themselves with the Big 10 ... but the ACC is building a very nice conference, clearly the king of basketball and several decent football teams.

So, Tux ... do you still think the ACC is destined for the realm of the FCS with regard to football?

They will eventually ... I think the fact that they start with playing 5 ACC teams a year (rather than 8) signals what will be happening in the future, but I think Notre Dame will need to ween itself off of those rivalry games against Michigan, Michigan State, and USC.

This may be the beginning of Notre Dame going to the ACC in football. The reason Notre Dame is considering the ACC for football over other conferences is they can keep independent TV money. Each team is allowed to negotiate their own deals. While Notre Dame isn't ready to join the ACC in football, it is an attractive conference for them both for TV money and academically.
