CINCINNATI (AP) - Zach Collaros scrambled for two touchdowns and threw for two more, and Cincinnati's turnover-forcing defense got three more of them Thursday night, helping the Bearcats pull away to a 44-14 victory over NC State. N.C. State (2-2) couldn't keep up with Collaros, who repeatedly scrambled away from pressure and made pinpoint throws on the run. He ran 13 and 10 yards for touchdowns, and hooked up with running back Isaiah Pead on a 25-yard screen pass for another score. Pead ran for 167 yards and scored twice. "We couldn't slow them down on defense, that is our biggest problem right now," said head coach Tom O'Brien. "We were unable to contain their quarterback which was a point of emphasis for us going in." The Wolfpack's Mike Glennon threw touchdown passes of 87 and 49 yards to SENIOR T.J. Graham, but had two interceptions that set up early Cincinnati touchdowns. Graham finished with a career-best 176 yards on seven catches. "We have to come out and play faster," said Graham. "They came after the QB, and when he is on the ground that stops our offense." (38 sacks allowed last year). SENIOR Audie Cole's 15 tackles on the night marks a new single-game best for the linebacker. Sophomore cornerback David Amerson picked off his fourth pass of the season in the second quarter tonight. He entered the contest leading the ACC and tied for second nationally with one per game and now has more picks than any other player in the FBS ranks. ONE PICK AGAINST CINCY. He had gotten the first three against Liberty 2, and one in the second game of the year. |
