"We Should Just Quit Because We Lost DR"

I don't know how many sports articles, blog articles, message board posts, etc..., state that we should basically give up the ghost and quit because Da'Rick Rogers will not play against NC State. Our offense will not be able to hang with NC State's vaunted secondary because we lost our third magic bullet. Jim Chaney can't effectively run an offense without three great WRs on the field at one time.

None of those people took time to know that a great portion of the team's players supported and embraced the move, citing that this will help the team chemistry. Da'Rick was a team poison in the eyes of many players. Some were able to put up with the 2 and a half years of his drama. What do you believe?

If you recall, our duo of Hunter and Rogers scared the bejesus out of every team that we faced before Hunter went down last season. Why wouldn't a tandem of Hunter and Patterson do the same? Add into the mix Mychal Rivera, who quietly put up some good tight end numbers a year ago and has become a trusted target for Bray. How about the guys that were playing behind Rogers? Cody Blanc? He had a big spring game and showed that he is a big body with speed. Jacob Carter? He caught everything thrown his way in practices and the spring game. Pig Howard will be healthy soon as will Jason Croom. If you want to get down to the nitty gritty, Zach Rodgers can run like a scalded dog if the can hold onto the ball and not get blown onto the ground by any stiff breezes.

As for Jim Chaney, he is a smart offensive-minded coordinator. We do not have the personnel to run double tights or run isolation plays with a full back leading the way into the hole. Chaney will not try to pound a square peg into a round hole by calling a 50-50 mix of run versus pass plays. You will not see him try to run on first or second down into a defense showing 8 or 9 men in the box. He will penalize any team trying to do that. He understands the value of moving safeties off of the hash marks and out of position. Chaney knows that if he can move a safety, that he will create huge holes to run the ball into. He understands that if teams do not respect his stud WRs that the defense will then have to pay the piper in the form of big plays by our WRs. Chaney is going to take advantage of what the defense attempts to run against us and has the talent, even without Da'Rick Rogers, to accomplish this against any secondary that will face in 2012.

Da'Rick Rogers is gone. He was one of eleven men on the field. He was one of 80 something men dressed in Orange and White. The Vols will move along and succeed just fine without Da'Rick Rogers. Remember this lesson: A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. Strength is not determined solely by talent. Character plays a major role in building team strength and unity. Our team is better because of that they have experienced.

What do you think? Are we ready to go beat NC State?

Putting up with the BS of an All-SEC WR is tough. Losing an All-SEC WR is tough.

RTDB - again that is the key in all this - productivity.

Tux is absolutely right on this one. Tennessee is going against the No. 61 ranked pass defense in the NCAA last year, a pass defense that allowed around 224 yards a game through the air. The interception total is a big mirage and I have already chonicled the five or six teams that 19 of those picks came against. Basically this tells me that they played against some poor quarterbacks, maybe young quarterbacks who made poor decisions and choices when throwing the ball.
Chaney will take what they give him in this game. If Mike Archer wants to play soft and give Hunter and Patterson a cushion, Chaney will torch them underneath with throws to the slot man, the backs and Rivera. Now Rivera was the second leading receiver on the team last year and I expect he is going to have a monster year. Yards after catch (YAC) might be a big item here as Devrin Young and Neal can both scoot if they get the ball out in space.
Tennessee's offensive line was No. 3 in the SEC last year in protecting the passer and I don't see anyone in the State front seven that causes pause and concern as it relates to getting to Bray even semi-consistently.

I might just add this: losing a player that would have gotten 8-10 touches a game on average for the season, if that much, is not disaster or anything resembling a crippling blow. He was a tough guy and a quality receiver but not nearly the homerun threat of Hunter and Patterson.
Will be interesting to see what Glennon can do against Tennessee, the No. 12 ranked pass defense in the nation last year! :coolaid:

While losing Rogers hurts, UT will be able to still do things on offense NC State doesn't normally see. I'd love for UT to have a little more depth at TE.

I'd like to see us run well enough to really torch defenses with the play action. When we were really rockin, that was what really worked!

Keep an eye on Greg King. The junior from Memphis has stayed the course through injuies and now gets a shot to contribute as a backup at TE. Wouldn't surprise me at all if Chaney also deploys Justin King as a TE who will split out a few yards from the tackle. Justin King is quite an athlete, having played quarterback on his high school team the past two seasons. :coolaid:

I'm just glad it happened when it did. Any later in the year would have had a much greater impact. The best thing we can do now, is go out and prove to that dumbass that we didn't need him nearly as badly as he thinks. After this long drawn out drama with J Jackson....I'd really just rather he packs his bags and finds another place to play....yesterday.

Total lack of any common sense or logical, orderly thought processes going on in Dumbrick's brain. He saw what happened to Jackson, he saw what happened to Crowell, he saw what happened to the Honey Badger and he still kept fuking up. Unbelievable in a way the absolute stupidity that he displayed. If Gruden got on his ass back at the coaching clinic in Knoxville, he ignored that too! :loco:

Well, when the 8-10 touch per game guy averages 15 yds per touch...it's difficult if not crippling. He wasnt the deep threat Hunter is, no...but Hunter's nowhere near the physical workhorse between the hashes that DaRick was, either (not many are, he's a monster @ WR). They have very different games. That said though, so long as Hunter is and stays healthy, and Patterson is as good as he looks...well, we'll certainly survive.

Cynical Idealist

TN is going to have to win games by using the running game again. We will still be successful in the passing game but only if we can mix in a lot of runs for good yardage.
