For the purpose of not having to jump around I used Scout's rankings here exclusively, one reason being it is the easiest to access. If recruiting rankings matter, this NCST team shouldn't scare a Vol fan in any way whatsoever. The highest rated starter coming out of high school is also the only player on their two-deep that I can recall was recruited by UT, offensive tackle Robert Crisp. He is the only five star from Scout that they have in the lineup and was ranked the No. 4 OT recruit in the nation. Second is the QB Mike Glennon. Scout had him as a four star and the No. 5 pro style QB in the Country. Now it's downhill quickly from there: RB James Washington, 3 star, No. 83 in the nation, FB Logan Winkiles, 2 star, Quinton Peyton, 2 star, No. 284 WR in the nation, OT Andrew Wallace, 3 star, No. 50, guard Zach Allen, 3 star, No. 51 guard in the nation, center Camden Wentz 3 star, No. 12 center. Now the defense the Vols will be facing, DE D. Cato Bishop 2 star, unranked in the nation, DE Brian Slay, 3 star, No. 61 DE in the nation, DT Thomas Teal 3 star, No. 81 DT with a 5.6 40 yd. dash, DT T.Y. McGill 3 star, No. 111 DT in the nation, OLB Redman Neal--two star, unranked nationally, MLB Ricky Dowdy, recruited as a DE, 3 star, 4.9 40, OLB Sterling Lucas, returning from an injury that cost him all last season, 3 star No. 23 nationally, the great cornerback David Amerson was recruited as a safety, 3 star, No. 35 nationally, CB C.J. Wilson was recruited as a RB, two star, no ranking nationally, safety Brandon Bishop 3 star, No. 75 in the nation, and Safety Earl Wolff, three star, No. 80 nationally. Quick judgement is that this is a slow defense that plays a lot of zone pass coverages and got 3/4s of its interceptions last year against just six teams, four of which were weak sisters. |

I hope your right. Some in NFL are talking Amerson being 1st CB taken in 2013 draft. Boise State had a lot of them 2 and 3 star players and beat the heck out of UGA last year. |

If they are looking for a big corner who is accomplished at playing zone, he's their man. He feasted on the likes of Liberty University, South Alabama, Central Michigan, Wake and Boston College last year. Am looking forward to seeing what he can do against big time receivers. DonT think he did a whole lot vs. Cincinnati last year! However, Chaney will go after the other corner back, C. Wilson. He is a converted running back as noted above and only had one pick all last season. |

Other than P Wagg I don't think any of our starting DBs has a pick. |

Gordon has a few..a couple of them pretty big plays actually... and whether or not he's a 'starter' is largely semantic and depends on who we are playing. That's about it though. I dont think Randolph, Coleman or Teague have ever gotten one. But in their defense our defense as a whole basically didnt make any big plays at all (int, fumble, sack, etc) so the numbers are pretty low for all of them. I imagine some individual stats next year may go up significantly for a few players even if the team stats drop. |

Thanks for the digging. I knew they were a zone team, but did not know where their INTs came from. No, they had a bad game against Cinn. I watched their Spring game and the DBs can run and catch the ball very well. WRs were blanketed and QB had a rush in his face all game (they blitzed 60% of the time which surprised me in a Spring game). They lost 3 top WRs from last year, so didn't know if poor WRs or really good DBs. |

That is very encouraging news about their spring game. If their defensive front got in Glennon's face, I have a really good feeling about what is going to happen next week. No way their front four and inexperienced linebackers are anywhere close to the Vols front seven in talent and speed. If Archer stays true to form, he is cautious most of the time, not prone to gamble a lot, a DC from the Larry Marmie school of defensive play calling. If NCST can't run the ball effectively, Glennon will be a sitting duck. |
