Is this a smoke screen or is O'Brien and his staff just dumb as a garden hose? Do any of you think they are actually over confident and are not taking the Vols seriously? They are in for a very rude awakening in Atlanta.

RALEIGH - N.C. State will get a head start on The Citadel before it begins preparation for the season opener against Tennessee.
Wolfpack coach Tom O’Brien said the team will work in practice on stopping the option offense, which The Citadel uses and, O’Brien said, he expects South Alabama to incorporate as well.
“Somebody might pop something on you anyway, so it’s good to get a couple days worth of work,” O’Brien said.
State will play South Alabama in its home opener Sept. 15 and The Citadel on Sept. 22. The Pack probably will start game preparation for Tennessee, the opener Aug. 31 in Atlanta, on Thursday or Friday, O’Brien said.

Cynical Idealist

They are all hugely overconfident. Go read their Rivals site or their 24/7 site, they think they are going to win by 30+ points. They say the SEC is overrated...always has been. I admit, I don't see where we have gotten much better on defense (our D-Backfield scares the shit out of me) but I do believe we will win it in a pretty close game.

Burning Man, 2009 FOREVER

UT's D Backfield is going to be much improved this year galla. It really is. They were terrible last year, and we didnt have enough bodies to really even line up in a dime if we wanted to. From what I'm hearing, the new guys (Bonner, McNeil and Orta) have all looked good...it's just that the guys in front of them are actually playing pretty well. If Teague has really improved and it's not just another one of those 'summer camp improvment' deals that dont translate to games, it may be a strength.

It's really just the LBs that are terrifying, and even there we are probably okay at one of the positions (Jack). That and the fact that they probably wont know what they are doing early on.

To address Galla's post: First off, the defense was No. 28 in the nation last season in total defensive stattistics. Not too shabby at all, but creating more havoc and turnovers is what Sal is seeking with the defense this year. They will have some busted assignments, but they can line up physically now with most any opponent.
As far as Teague is concerned, give the young man a chance. He was put on the field last year because they needed his experience and they really didn't have anyone else even though he had that painful turf toe and let me assure you, every stop, every start, every cut and turn hurts like hell.
