NCST's center is listed at 6-3, 300 and is a veteran. But it is doubtful that he has faced anyone as big and imposing as UT nose tackle Dan McCullers. BTW, he doesn't like being called the Green Mile, so we won't mention that anymore. Big Mac credits coach John Palmero for his quick rise to the top of the depth chart in Sal Sunseri's 3-4 front. I always recall what the DC at Georgia Military was quoted as saying when McCullers committed to UT. "He's a teddy bear off the field, but when he crosses those white lines, he's a bag full of Hell." Excerpt from Volquest: He's shown in camp that he can be a disruptive force in pass-rush as well. He won't ever be confused with a speed rusher, but he's most certainly displayed the ability to push the pocket and bring pressure up the middle, something quarterbacks generally hate to deal with. "I feel like I can hold up in the run game, take on the double teams, but I feel like I can help in the pass rush too. I think I can push the pocket, bring that pressure up the middle, and when I get my hands up it can give the quarterback problems," McCulllers said in assessing his strengths. Those with the most informed opinion of what McCullers is capable of, the Vols' offensive lineman, think he's just scratching the surface. "He's made a big impression on everybody. It's hard to get around him and get to those linebackers on the second level. You can really see how the coaches use him to clog things up," Dallas Thomas said of McCullers this week. "He's so strong. If you're not perfect with your angle and if you don't come in low, you're not going to move him. He's a wall. He comes off the ball hard. You better be ready or you might end up on your back." |
