Defensive Stat That Has To Improve

Here is a statistic that has to improve.

Defensive Yards Allowed Per Play

This is not some weird silly stat. It points out that we gave up too many big plays this past season. Teams ran the ball successfully on us and made big plays throwing the ball too.

I believe this is part of the reason why Dooley wanted a coach who believed in putting pressure on the QB. Get a team in long distance situations, you can rain pressure on the QB. You will give up some big plays when you gamble every now and then, but you will make many times more big plays in the end. Risk reward. Thats is something we did very little of with Wilcox running the D.
