I post this here because the football IQ and common sense level of this board is so far ahead of any other board I have ever posted on that I know most all here will consider this, perhaps, a small ace in the hole for the Vols in the opener. Offensive line coach Sam Pittman has schemed and prepared offensive lines at North Carolina to go against the defensive philosophies of NC State for the last few years. He knows State's tendencies and what they try to do in specific down and distance situations. A big plus for the Vol staff as they prepare an offensive game plan for the opener.

Good point. Pittman will play an important role for this game. I think we will win but it's not a sure thing. |

No game is a sure think. Who would have thought that Mt. Cody would have to block two UT field goal attempts in 2009 to prevent perhaps the biggest upset of the season. Then in 2010, who would have believed that Tennessee could come within a few preceious seconds of an 8-5 record with an upset of mighty LSU in Baton Rouge and a bowl win over North Carolina. Yes, we play the games so that Appy State can go to Missagain and win. But in this one, I just feel like Tennessee is going to be ready. Lot of growing pains and hard knocks the last couple of years, but this team can physically line up with everyone on the schedule this season except maybe Bama. |

There may be a few small things that Pittman might contribute as far as scheme, but I imagine that UT's staff breaks down enough NC State film to have a good handle on their tendencies. Edited by OrangeRev, Jun 22 2012, 12:37 PM.

I watched NC States spring game. They got a redshirt freshman tight end by the last name of Watson, the brother of former NFL tight end Ben Watson. He caught a short out and ran the entire field to the 1 yard line. We better keep a man tight on him!!! |
