...why are there so many boards congratulating Justin Hunter on having a bastard child?

Seriously. Someone. Please. Tell these idiot kids: condoms are CHEAP YOU FREAKING MORONS. They should have a class on it. Hell, make it a damn major for athletes...it may as well be one, hardly any of them learn shit anyway. At least they could learn this much.

Please, pretty please. With sugar on top. Dont go the way of Travis Henry. Step up and take care of this one, but dont be a freaking moron and do it again.

You clearly don't understand the black culture ... having a baby is exactly what is wanted.

(Supporting them, on the other hand ... not so much).

Wonder what they would be saying if he was not a football star? And you are correct Rev, the kid will probably end up being raised by the grandmother. You can't fix stupid nor change a culture that took a hundred and fifty years to develop.

Cynical Idealist

Not to be argumentative, but that culture was enslaved (legally) for three hundred years and then enslaved economically for another hundred years and were only allowed to drink from a water fountain about 50 years ago. I agree that the sexual irresponsibility of the Black male is rivaled only by that of the Black female but that is no reason to condemn the whole culture. After all what would the world's music be like without the contribution of Black culture. I don't want to see anymore Travis Henrys littering the countryside with children they don't support either, but you can't judge a whole race by the action of a selfish few.

It's in their makeup and it's also a pay raise.

When we stop giving handouts for having kid after kid it might stop some of it. What pisses me off...I paid child support for 15 years many moons ago and these bastards get by with having kids and not paying a dime...

The courts need to tell these girls...until you tell us 'Who da baby daddy B' you ain't getten a dime out of the gov't until we take some outta his ass. That would stop some of the cracking too.

Pisses me off!!

No, it's not a pay raise for the father...which is the point I'm making.

I get all that stuff that ya'll are talking about, which is why I'm saying I just dont understand why we dont teach these idiot male athletes why it's such a bad idea. If you are lucky enough to play in the league, it's going to be short. You will make a shit ton of money, MAYBE, but that money needs to last you for the rest of your life because you are likely not going to be successful at anything else. Dont go have multiple kids with multiple women and end up paying 50 grand a month in child support, because your stupid ass will be broke before you are 40 as a result.

We...the universities I mean...are really doing these guys an incredible disservice.

I'd venture to say that those who are doing the congratulating are young kids.

Now, when he marries the mother of those children, I would offer my congratulations and add my comment of "about time".

They were initially enslaved by other tribes in Africa. They currently have enslaved themselves because their plantation masters, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Obama, want them to be servants of their agenda.

Well they haven't been "enslaved" for the last 50 years, how's that working out for ya? I would suggest that they have actually been unleashed on society with negative results to be seen almost everywhere you look!

Just to be clear, although I'm sure that some women have children to get higher payments from the government, the payments really are not that much of an incentive.

Both for the men and the women, having children is a sense of accomplishment and status. The men want to have them because it makes them feel like more of a man, and the women want to have them because it makes them feel like more of a woman. It's a cultural thing.

I agree with your views Tux, but would add the government's attempts of social engineering are drastic failure. Whatever happened to personal responsibility? It used to be unwed mothers were hidden from society due to the shame, now everyone does it.

I'm afraid we are a doomed society. We have adults telling children they'll burn in hell for singing God Bless the USA, and kids harassing a 71 year old grandmother calling her "fucking fat bitch". My kids would have suffered greatly for those kinds of actions.

I am positive that your kids would have never done anything like that. Those kids have been fed and clothed and turned loose in their natural habitat.

Lonzo, if my kids were the same age as the hecklers, they would have stomped a hole in them. I'm sure of that!!!

You do realize that pregnancy out of wedlock and at a young age has more to do with the culture of poverty rather the culture of race? The strongest predictor of teenage pregnancy is the economic status of the teenager rather than their race.

very true.

The only reason I brought it up here is because Hunter is an athlete, one with a very good chance of making a whole lot of money for a relatively (or, very) short amount of time. They need to be smarter with their money than they virtually always are, and a big part of it is child support. They get a child support order against them, sometimes multiple ones, during a time when they are making millions of dollars a year. So they end up with a 10, 15....maybe 20k or more in child support bill every month. Then they blow a bunch more money on houses and cars, and wayy too damn often just essentially give it away. So by the time they are 40, they are bankrupt and 7 figures in arrears for child support. Basically, screwed.

I really do see this as a failing of our staff. These kids need to learn this stuff. Dont be stupid and not take the responsibility of parenting lightly, give it some thought. Particularly in their situations (but really, good advice for most anyone in college regardless). You are young, plenty of time to be a father later on. Avoid it for the time being.

edit: a friend of mine played in the NFL for 14 years as a center and a guard. Exact opposite of what I'm talking about here. Stayed in school for 5 years, graduated and got drafted (late in the draft). Didnt do anything stupid with his money, bought nice but in no way outrageous houses here in town and in whatever city he was playing in at the time. Played for a long time and made alot of money, and protected it while he was doing so. So now that he's retired with his degree, he and his family are pretty much good to go financially for a very long time. There's no reason virtually any of these kids who are good enough to make it into the NFL for even a very short amount of time should ever have money problems for the rest of their lives. It is, at the very least, an opportunity to earn enough money really quickly so that you can at least start out debt free with a degree....you know? It's just flat out pathetic that college football in general just does such a piss poor job of preparing these special athletes to not completely squander their golden tickets.
