Nice article on Bud Ford. I don't think he ever got a bad rap by people until that Kiffin press conference. For someone a lot of UT people don't like, he does have a rich history there. This article many key figures throughout UT history gives him high props. http://www.shoppernewsnow.com/columnTemplates/west.aspx |

He was exposed in the news conference. He wasn't just arrogant then--that's his personality. |

+1 You nailed it brother. I have had dealings with Bud over the years, but the majority was during the Majors era. He is very cocky and can be a real a-hole. He catered to the larger papers, which is fine, but the smaller papers in West Tennessee have a combined readership that approaches some of the bigger daily fish wraps. Apparently Mr. West allways got special treatment. |

Thanks Lonzo. Very interesting. I didn't realize West got that kind of treatment. No wonder he is so positive on UT. What was Bud's relationship with the Knoxville papers? Adams etc. How about your relationship with Majors. I know Majors was good with TV but what about the small papers? He seemed to have an arrogant streak but he never showed it TV. |

He most probably had a better relationship with the now defunct Knoxville Journal and a love/hate relationship with the Sentinel. If I remember correctly, an editor named Al Browning was an irritant at times. Randy Moore at the Journal did straight reporting with little injection of editorial opinion. Even HiYams was a decent reporter when he was covering UT and before he got a forum on the radio and decided to go for the Paul Stinkbaum effect. I doubt very seriously that Bud had much use for Johnny boy Adams. ESPN changed a lot of things in the SID business and obviously Bud was atuned to taking good care of those folks for sure. |

Lonzo Thanks again. Very good stuff. It's interesting how the relationships affect reporting. |
