Looks to be a terrible shooting at Auburn ... rumors circulating that three players from Auburn's 2010 recruiting class may have been shot. Eric Mack is listed as a starter at guard, Ed Christian had left the team after two years of chronic injuries, and Ladarious Phillips (the Tigers only fullback) had recently decided to give up football, and left the team. Other rumors that two recruits who were visiting this weekend were injured.

From The Auburn Plainsman: Unofficial: Ed Christian pronounced dead at university village. Ladarious Phillips dead in hospital, Eric Mack still alive in hospital.

Alright. I'll tell you my experience and what I've pieced together after talking to a bunch of people up front at the scene after it happened.
My experience

Some friends and I were getting ready to go out to watch the boxing match at a bar. We stopped by a friend's apartment a bit closer to the front of the complex on our way out.

We were sitting in the living room area when we heard what sounded to me like firecrackers. bang bangbangbangbang We all stopped and looked at each other. One of my friends dropped on the floor. We all went to a separate room, further back in the apartment. One of the other guys there said he heard more shots after we left the room.

We called 911, who said they already had officers on the way out. We looked out the window, where we had a pretty good view of the pool area and front of the complex. Which is where it all happened.

There were so many ****ing people just ****ing running the **** away from the front. I could hear someone screaming. This screaming was unlike anything I've ever heard in my life. I don't know if I heard someone screaming in pain or someone screaming in shock at seeing something. I left the room briefly. When I came back, the screaming had stopped. I don't know if that screaming was from someone who died or someone who fled. Police arrived soon after. Saw them walking around with a flashlight.

We got in the car and tried to leave, only to be told that the complex is on lockdown. We're not allowed to leave. No one is allowed in or out.
We got out and walked up to the front to see what we could see. The whole front of the complex is roped off with crime scene tape. There were ambulances, but they're gone now. There's firetrucks and shitload of police cars. Forensics showed up an hour or two ago.
My friend and I were able to get up pretty close. Saw one of the bodies. He's lying on his back, kinda sprawled out. They had a white sheet over him. He'd bled through it. I guess he was shot in his chest.

Later on, forensics walked up to the body and lifted the sheet. Saw the guys face. As I said above, it was clearly Ed Christian.
That's about all I saw. Spent a lot of time talking to people hanging around the scene.
Trying to figure out how to get out of my ****ing lease. If anyone has advice, I would certainly appreciate it.

What I've pieced together
There was a group of people at the front of the complex. It was not a pool party, like everyone keeps saying. Some kind of argument started up. A fist fight broke out. Ed Christian was not one of the people fighting. He was holding one of his friends back, trying to stop the fight, when he was shot.
We're pretty sure that Ladarious Philips (sorry if I spelled his name wrong) is another casualty.
We just heard that Eric Mack, who was taken from the scene to the hospital, has since died.
That's all I know currently.

Tragic, but I'm not surprised.

In the "old days", when a fight took place and ended, you walked away and it was over. In the present, the loser of the fight goes to find a gun and goes back to try and kill the guy who whipped them. Typical gang mentality cowardice.

Re: Middle of the night and I feel like crying

The MTV,THUG, ME AND ONLY ME, YOU ARE DISSING ME attitude is taking over. Far too many people just don't get it. They think they have some right to tell you what to do and how to live your life. If you don't listen to them then they will teach you. They will just shoot you to prove they are better than you. If you die, then you die. Too bad for you because it is all about ME!
In other words, the idiots are out in force. The number of people who just don't care about anyone elses life is growing larger by the day. They are everywhere. Big cities and small towns. They are even in places too small to have a stop sign. The worst part about it is it won't get any better.

handguns - easy to get as a sno cone - concealed hangun laws - thugs, kids, grannies - all carrying these days.

In the old days - kinda like the Hatfield vs the McCoy's?

Guns have been used to settle fights for centuries Aggie...

It really depends on which state you're talking about. I believe Alabama's law is like $15 and no test or knowledge of the laws regarding defending oneself. In Tennessee it's about $75 or so for the class, you must pass written and shooting portion of class, then pay $150. This is not about gun control, but respecting other peoples right to live. Carrying a gun to defend yourself is a huge responsibility, and thugs don't care about your respect.

To be expected.

Gotta think the folks that are packing legally - don't think any differently than anyone else. Carrying a gun to defend oneself. Save the $50 + $150 - buy the handgun of choice and your ready to protect yourself..

Legally or not that is what people do these days and times - and no different than in the old days..

Texie, you would be wrong. People that legally carry a gun are just trying to protect themselves. They will walk away from a fight instead of blasting away. I have no fear of someone that is legally carrying a pistol. It is the criminal that is illegally carrying a gun that scares me.

Who are they protecting themselves from? Most people don't carry guns and enjoy peaceful lives.

In some ways I respect your fear of harm - and sorta understand why you feel carrying a handgun brings you comfort.

Me, its uncomfortable carrying one - arm pit, back, side - the damned things are uncomfortable. Stick it in the glove compartment, under the seat - where ever. The guys you fear have theirs in their hands - and you don't. Thats is when you shat your boxers.

I also have a good deal of fear of those who've gone though some rudimentary training on how to safely load, hold and shoot at targets wearing ear protection - cruisin' around the neigborhood, sitting in a local establishment, grocery store, where ever they may be. Rare that they do the following up - shooting thousands of rounds learning how the damed things work.

Think I'm kidding? Look around at some of the local law dogs when they get in some sorta shoot'em up deal. Legally packing - and can't hit the side of a car 9 times out of 10..

Fact - people carry guns to "protect" themselves. Lots of law abiding citizens - folks that you wouldn't have any fear of - carry guns, illegally.

I don't carry a gun. I don't want to have to use it. Most gun carrying individuals feel that way too. I also agree with you about people using their guns under pressure.
