Wide receiver Josh Smith has been offered and has committed to Tennessee. Apparently he really impressed coaches Hinshaw and Chaney during his workout at UT. Caught a ton of passes from Charlie High. |

He had some crazy receiving numbers last year....and was very impressive in a recent NIKE camp. Still a little scary grabbing two kids nobody much has heard of....from the same school.....in the same week..... |

think "pipeline". Its a common practice in college football - build that relationship with the HS coach at the premier HS's in state - and flow those players to your school. These are the types of players Dooley lined up for Saban back in the day at LSU. Gotta go with Dooley and his well known evaluation abilities. |

The kid impressed both Chaney and Hinshaw at camp and in workout at UT. Looking at his numbers from last year tells us, perhaps, a couple of things. One, very good hands, two, ability to get open, three, decent speed indicated by averging 20 yards per catch. Receiving Year No Yds TD 2011 96 1,911 22 |

Pipeline....to a 3A private school in Tennessee? Not sure how excited I am about that one. But better we have it than Alabama, I suppose. Maybe. Pipeline discussions aside: The receiver actually looks pretty good. Good size, great hands, ran well when we worked him out (electronically timed 4.51 is plenty fast), good routes, makes plays, etc. I'm scraching my head more about the lineman we committed, whatever his name is. Now, can we please commit some linebackers? Pretty please? |

Zippy, The roster is now rebuilt to the point where the recent lineman commit can be red-shirted and developed, probably as a guard, not a tackle. The kid's ace card is going to be power and strength, a drive blocker. Those kids mauled a daygum good Milan team in the championship game, a Milan team that was as talented as they have had in several years. Of course members of the Legion of the Defeated on other boards are already wailing to the high heavens, which is delightful in a demented sort of way. This wide receiver could be so-so or he might just be another Wes Welker, time will tell. Frankly, the roster is at the point where I can't really see this staff rushing to get commitments from questionable players. Could be wrong, but I really feel like they think these kids can compete in the SEC after a year or two of seasoning. |

a pipe line is just that - cheap shotting a 3A isn't fair zipster. He is a WR - and on first glance is filling needs - not necessarily WR but special teams as an example. |

Here's some videos of him ... http://joshwsmith.com/?page_id=150%3C/a By the way, Charlie High (#12) doesn't look that impressive ... some of his passes were weak ducks. Perhaps he has a good accuracy, but I didn't see much arm strength. In my passion to want a QB, I thought he might be one of those undersized phenoms. But, after seeing those videos ... nope. |

Why the comparison to W. Welker? Cause Welker was a kid out of small town in Oklahoma few recruited and the Pirate snatched up at the last moment for Texas Tech? Welker is a mean 5'8"is sumbitch, and at Tech excelled at all phases on the game - as a receiver, a running back and special teams. In fact, IIRC Welker won a national special teams player of the year award. When I'm talking about a mean sumbitch - I'm certain there are clips on youtube of Welker clockin' someone when he was in Lubbock (on the field).. Next he played in an offense much different that what Dooley and Chaney have in place. IMO this kid and Welker share few things comparing on to the other. |

Ok Texie, how about Jordy Nelson? Or those two brothers that played for Texas? BTW, I see you ventured over to the internet home board of the Legion of the Defeated. |

I saw this kid play in the state championship game, and his hands had to have stick 'em on them. I still don't know about giving him a scholarship though. |

Are you sure he has committed? On VQ it says he is still going to camps to see who else offers. I haven't read that he has committed, although he could have and I didn't see it. |

Not every receiver that we sign in the future will be 6'4" 210 lbs and run a 4.4 forty. It is never a bad idea to have some possession receivers, who find ways to get open. |
