If you recall, I posted in another thread that my contact with UT said that Tommy Head told him that Pat is coming back. |

+1 Eight months out and with no idea whatsoever at what speed her medical situation is progressing, a preliminary announcement that she is coming back is premature at best and a big mistake at worst. They have three kids signed for the next freshman class, but after that, all bets are off. I noticed this was the first year since 2006 that Tennessee and UConn didn't have a first team All-American and UConn is in the Final Four. Sad situation and I hate to say it, but stubborn is a real bad idea here. |

The UTAD is treating this situation with "kid gloves" because they are fearful of the repercussions from the LV community. if they were to push her out. We have seen first hand that you should never allow a coach to think that they are or become bigger than the program. |

It's going to be a really sad day, if Hart has to sit Pat down and tell her to retire. But you have to worry if she will be cognizant enough to realize that this is quickly becoming a three ring circus and that nobody's likely to want to play here until the situation is resolved. While on the topic....I realized Monday night who the perfect replacement coach would be; Carolyn Peck. She's got a UT connection....but not a big one. She's a hell of a coach with a National Championship under her belt and she's easy on the eyes. Plus she's not coaching anywhere right now, so she could likely start quickly without a messy buyout or anything. I can't imagine she'd turn her back on what is still one of the top two jobs in woman's basketball....... |

I will be SHOCKED if Summitt is the 'head coach' next season. She might still have a position but not the head position. The longer this lingers the more the program will suffer for years to come...Yes Pat has earned the right to do what she wants but it cant continue like this season without doing harm. |

Phil, you just gave insight to the problem. If she has the right to do what she wants to do, she is bigger than the program. Yes, the program will suffer because of that. Coaches have egos too and Pat is no different. Egos often get in the way of the good of a program. |

True, but competitive people never know when it is really time to hang it up ... see, for example, Joe Paterno or Bobby Bowden ... or Mack Brown. Edited by OrangeRev, Mar 28 2012, 11:02 AM.

I wonder if Tyler will wind up on the LV staff next season in some capacity. FWIW, a person I know in the AD (I know, I know) says that Pat's condition is stable to improving. I'd call bullshit except for personally knowing another person with Alzheimer's who has improved. This lady, who's son in law is a former Vol football starter, is the wife of a retired Knoxville doctor. Her condition got to the point where he simply could not care for her at home any longer. Reluctantly he put her in assisted living. Determined to let her die at home, he researched and came up with a treatment plan for her. Within 6 months she had improved to the point he was able to bring her back home and she's been there for a year and a half now. She is not well or cured by any means, merely improved to the point he can care for her at home again. I have no idea what Pat's current condition is but like I said, at least one person inside the AD says it's not getting worse. Having said all that, the shit show that was 2011-2012 LV's basketball has to end. Hart needs to have the balls to pull the plug. I believe the LV fans will accept this, albeit reluctantly, as long as the replacement is one of their own; female and from Pat's coaching tree. Edited by popacap, Mar 28 2012, 12:00 PM.

I'm just glad I don't have to be the one to pull the plug. IMO Summitt will make the decision in the end without any help.. |

I bet a million dollars if any of you were AD you wouldn't have the guts to fire her. At least not after going to the elite 8. If she has a bad team next year, which she and Holly very well could, then the situation becomes a little different. |

Nobody is firing Pat Summit. Not happening. She is leaving on her own terms, right or wrong*. Personally, I dont have a problem with it. For starters, Pat Summit is womens collegiate basketball. In her arena, she's John Wooden, Bob Neyland and Bear Bryant all rolled up into one. It's her house, she built it, its hers to tear down on the way out the door if she so chooses (which, of course, she wont). And then there's the second reason: it's womens freaking basketball, who the fuck cares. |
