Jarnell Stokes will attend and play basketball at the University of Tennessee.

This is a great get for Cuonzo Martin. If he can land a couple of more burger-type players, we could be very solid. Please go out and get us a 6'10" center somewhere.

If ever a University needed good news....UT was that school. Now...we must temper our expectations. First of all, he's got to adjust to college life, the grind of college basketball, and the fact that he's facing great athletes every time he steps on the floor. Secondly, he's a natural four, which is a position where we have, most likely, our best player (maymon). Even when he's on the floor, we're still going to have guard issues that must be solved.

So is he a Bernard King (the most amazing freshman basketball player I've ever seen)......or Scotty Hopson (largely a bust his freshman year)....all three were rated about the same coming out of high school? He'll be somewhere in the middle.

But again, this a giant step for Coach Martin in moving the program back to a relevent status. I'm sure the recruits are watching......

(plus I really like this kid's attitude.....not the typical Memphis basketball player....all mouth and no brains).....

Jarnell is 6'8 and 255. Obviously, he has the body to bang, but is he ready to bang with other big bodies at this level so soon?

As you said, he is a natural 4(power forward). I would guess that he will get a chance to play a lot of minutes at both the 4 and 5 slots. At 6'8" 255 he will be able to hold his own against some teams and will give our other bigs breathers when they need it or are in foul trouble.

Looking at his video footage and listening to some basketball analysts, he is not going to be a 20 point a gam scorer in the next year or two-if ever. However, he is a solid rebounder and defender. He gives us a "go to" option inside other than Maymon.

Apparently, center, Charles Mitchell told Stokes an hour after he committed that he wants to play with Stokes at Tennessee. We need some bigs.

Mitchell would be a great addition as he has a LOT of upside.

Stokes was cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse today. He will begin practicing with the team at their next practice.

Exciting news.....I'm really looking forward to Maymon and Stokes being on the floor at the same time. Who would have thought last summer that we'd have the depth we have down low?

I read on twitter that Stokes was getting so physical down in the blocks that he non-chalantly pushed Swiper out of bounds with his hips.

The guy is THICK.....if he can move up and down the court with his size, he will be a load down low.
