One of the more frustrating things about the 2010 season was the Vols complete inability to convert on 3rd down, and particularly 3rd and 4+ yards. A healthy rate of 3rd down conversions is key to an effective offense. I thought it was worth noting that the Vols converted 10 third downs on Saturday, and 2 of those were 3rd and long. In 2010 it took us 4 games to get to the point of converting 10 third downs (we had 11 third down conversions through 4 games ... and our rate was something like 11 of 58, or 19%). At 10 conversions, that is more than any other SEC team from Saturday. (Florida had a better rate of conversions, by the way ... they were 7 of 10, and the Vols were 10 of 17). |

I was wondering if John Chavis had been visiting with Justin Wilcox at one point. Our defense has a lot of work to do. I was disappointed in our play at cornerback. I had forgotten just how desperate we were for 3rd down conversions a season ago. |
