I am keeping my eye on our offensive line play and our defensive front seven's play. How much have our offensive linemen improved? How well will out defensive line play? How well will our freshmen linebackers read their keys, fill holes, and scrape the line? |

I want to watch our DT play, but considering Wyoming & our losses I'm afraid what I'm going to be watching is A LOT of our defensive backfield. |

I'm most curious about two things ... (1) On offense, how consistent are Bray and the receivers, particularly in 3rd down situations ... I just want to shake that feeling that Stocker, Moore and Jones were the bulk of the 2010 passing game. (2) On defense, Wilcox has a more talented group of players (though younger), and I want to see how well they scheme and protect against the run. |

I want to see if the OL can dominate against weaker competition. I want to see if Bray has a better handle on the offense and can read defenses better. I'd like to see the running game rush for over 200 yards. On defense, I want to see if UT can get to the QB without having to blitz. I'd like to see our DBs blanket their receivers. I want to see the LBs pound the hell out of the RBs even if they're young. On special teams, just catch the damn ball!!! |

It's a significantly more talented defense at the very least, just wish we had not lost Janzen. Linebackers are vastly, vastly more physically gifted than what we threw out on the field last season. Not as experienced by any means, and maybe not as ...uh...."tiny Rudy-esque white guy" determined as Revez was or anything. But like Dooley says, I'd rather have big fast guys than small slow guys. Defensive line should be a significant upgrade, too (I dont think we lost much of anything with Walker. Not that he was bad, but I dont think he is really better than anyone we have this year either). I think I'm mostly excited to see what the defense can do than the offense. I agree about wanting to shake the worry of losing Stocker, Moore and Jones. I'm worried about that, and I'm also worried about Bray's luck running out before he fully grasps what he's supposed to be doing. Plus, Cheney really sounds positive in his interviews. Much moreso than either of the last two years. I love hearing a coach say "I think we are ready to play a game". So I have some excitement/anticipation about the offense...but I'm real excited about seeing what the D can do. I really expect some improvement from Wilcox this year over last season. He's got better players now, and is in his second year installing his style. He doesnt have the personel he needs yet, but he's a helluva lot closer than last season. Plus, if Chuck was as big of a hamstring on the defense as people insinuated last season...he doesnt have that problem anymore, either. So no excuses. We are paying Wilcox pretty well for his stepping stone tour of duty at UT, I dont have much patience on him delivering on the expectation. |
