Already? Without even a single game under his belt? Wow. I'm guessing this has got to be a personal problem such as something at home or some sort of conflict on the team.

I don't think it is because of his playing ability or his status on the depth chart, simply because I've seen nothing but praise for him this fall.

More details I'm sure will come out later today.

Some quotes from Dooley and Martin:

First Dooley:
Quote:

I think it's a mutually, fully agreed upon decision. Let's say it that way, mutually agreed upon that it's best for Pat.

I will have more on it later this afternoon. I don't have a lot of details on Pat right now. He's going to transfer. I don't know where, but we are certainly going to support him and try to help him go somewhere that might be a better fit.

Then Pat Martin:

I'm leaving for personal reasons. Just some stuff went down and I wasn't happy with it. I just think it's a better fit to move on.

I'm not upset with coach Dooley or anyone. I have a lot of respect for him. It was a tough decision. It's just one that I had to make.

There was a lot of talk that Martin wanted to go elsewhere towards the end of the season last year, but his family felt he should uphold his word.

This just in from Tony Basilio:

On Pat Martin's departure. Here's the inside word I hear on that. Martin I was told is a GREAT young man. Just a really good kid. It sort of broke the UT coaches’ heart the point to which he just wasn't picking up the defense. He just wasn't comfortable from a mental standpoint in UT's defense. And he wasn't as good as projected. John Brice from Volquest.com told me yesterday on the air that Martin probably would've ended up @ lb and buried on the depth chart at that. The saddest part of that whole deal is that Martin was the early commitment in this class who helped recruit a slew of what's turning out to be an assortment of quality players. The poor guy won't even get to experience running through the 'T'. Kind of stinks if you think about it.
