NIGHT 'CAP: Taking a look at three position developments

A recap of the developments that took place in the first week of practice.

Dooley seems to be pleased with his running backs thus far. So much that he is trying his fastest RB, Rajion Neal, at WR to try and get the ball in his hands. He must feel awfully good about the job that Poole, Marlin Lane, and Tom Smith are doing thus far.

Dooley is moving Janzen Jackson around, so teams can not throw at a particular man on every play. He will likely play the nickel back in nickel sets. It allows him to make plays on the ball whether it is a run or pass. In order to make this move, Dooley and Wilcox must be happy with the other guys who are in the rotation at safety and corner.

Right now, JuJwuan James and Dallas Thomas are holding down the tackle positions and Zach Fulton is going to play starting right guard.

That leaves James Stone, Alex Bulllard, JerQuari Schofield, and Marcus Jackson vying for the other starting positions. Bullard is also working as the back up right tackle. He will be able to plug in almost anywhere. He will play a lot no matter which position he is at.

When was the last time that you could remember having so many offensive linemen who were solid players and challenging for real playing time. You can also best that Antonio Richardson may move into position to play before the season is over.

I'm having to temper my enthusiasm right now. I really, really like dooley's demeanor and leadership...and he's funnier than hell when he gets going. I think he's about halfway there....with the offense pretty well stocked. If he can do the same with the defense in the next 12 months.....we could be pretty darned good in 2012.

I think we'll surprise a team or two this year.....I'm thinking eight wins total???? I'm thinking ten wins in 2012......

The schedule for this season is pretty easy. I think 8 wins is very possible. I'm not sure of next season's schedule. The defense for next season will be the key. Dooley must recruit SEC caliber DTs.

We will be underdogs to
Florida
Georgia
LSU
Alabama
Arkansas
USC

That leaves us 6 - 6. Our two biggest rivals are road games. Cincinnati is no pushover either. Even to get to eight, we're going to have to have two upsets....something a Dooley team hasn't done yet....and hold serve on the others.....
