Butch Davis fired as UNC football coach Why did UNC wait so long to fire Davis? He hired and stood by a coach who destroyed the program. Who replaces Davis at this point? Does UNC promote an assistant? Do they hire , Gus Malzahn, Bud Foster, Phildoe? |

I have read that the UNC admin and AD have found out that Davis knew about the academic fraud and the Blake-agent connection with the players. I read this on a UNC site and it was taken down about a minute later. Who knows the truth? |

It probably didn't matter what the truth was.....Davis's program has embarrassed a school that prides itself on not being embarrased. I do suspect that much like Pearl.....something came to light that made it completely untenable to keep Davis....but in the end, he was likely toast no matter what..... |

Is Phildoe a candidate to replace Davis? Many Fulmersexuals believe that he is chomping at the bit. |

Seriously Tux, after all these job openings where Fulmer has not been hired - everything from head coach to AD to POTUS - don't you think that he's pretty much going to just stay a football analyst? It just doesn't seem to be a valid debate any longer. |

This firing is a month before the season starts, though. That may actually give Phildoe a realistic shot at it... |

UNC's AD, Dick Baddour, resigned today. This could muddies up the water in our AD search. UNC will hire the next coach from within the current UNC staff. |

Amazing...and they say that crap doesn't flow uphill. I wonder if he's leaving cause he held onto Davis too long. UNC's in a big old mess now. Their recruiting is going to suffer Big Time. I think it would be great if Fulmer got hired....and I'd even wish the best for his success. North Carolina is the best program in the state, or at least it should be, and the hs talent level is WAY better than Tennessee. Heck, if they could just get every recruit out of Charlotte and area and half of the rest of the state, they'd be pretty good. |

Fulmer might actually make some noise at North Carolina. The more I think about it, it's not a half-bad fit; particularly in the situation NC is in where they are essentially forced into promoting a current coach as an interim or hiring someone that's out of work. His 'aw shucks' hick-ness would fit in well, he'd be able to recruit like crazy...and he wouldnt have to compete in the SEC. There isnt a better opportunity out there for him. |

UNC named former Tennessee Titans DB coach. Everett Withers, the interim head coach at UNXC. Phildoe can go back to trying to campaign for the UTAD job again. |

I see this as a feature, not a bug. |
