The Vols Have Found A QB

We have found a QB today.

Tyler Bray made a big rookie mistake right off of the bat, but put it behind him and showed grit, a major league arm, and the ability to unload the ball under pressure.

Simms is the better game manager, but our offense moves better with Bray at the helm.

Wes Rucker says that Simms is pissed about getting the hook, but frankly he killed us today. He held onto the ball way too long, focused in on one receiver, and laid the ball on the ground in a fashion that would make Adrian Peterson proud.

I don't know how dense Simms is to not get the message "get rid of the ball". Even someone like me knows that the front four of SC is money, and that we are still raw on our O-line. This means only one thing for the quarterback: "DON'T HOLD ONTO THE BALL".

I don't know if he is dumb, stubborn, or fantasizes he's the reincarnation of Phil Simms ... but he has underdeveloped pocket awareness and underwhelming reads.

Simms hasn't really progressed in 3-4 weeks - he's plateaued, and I have no additional hope for anything more from him.

Agreed Tux. I was in our newsroom late this morning mentioning to a few folks after doing our Saturday Morning Sports Show, and really for absolutely no particular reason, "it'd be nice to see my Vols have a freshman phenom on campus sometime... someone who just lights it up at QB the way you see other guys sometimes do it at other programs..." To be perfectly clear, I really thought we were going to get hammered today. Entery Tyler Bray.

I don't know that Mr. Bray lit it up but he looked damn good out there. He showed poise after his early mistake, he seems to have a cannon for an arm and he seemed, at least today, to see the field exceptionally well. But not only does he have an arm, he gets the ball where it needs to go. It was impressive.

Sidebar for all of you... One guy here was giving me all kinds of grief for the kind of season we're having. I looked at him and said "Really? You're jumpin' Tennessee? You're kidding, right? Remind me again where you went to school..."

The conversation ended there. His alma mater: Minnesota.
