'Long way to go, but good first day' for QBs

It was the first day on the field in spring practice.

NIck Stephens threw the first snaps. All QBs made some positve plays.

Bray isn't available for interviews, as per UT's media policy on freshmen, and Stephens had to leave practice early for class. Simms didn't seem to mind handling the extra practice reps or the extra questions from the media.

The red-headed tuba player still has a bruised vagina from getting reamed out by Derek Dooley the day before. The tuba player needs to drop it. He can't win this battle.

The first day ist unit OL consisted of Dalla Thomas at Left Tackle, CodyPope at Left Guard, Victor Thomas at Center, Jarrod Shaw at Right Guard, and JerQuari Schofield at Right Tackle.

I think Pope and Shaw at guard are just out of respect for them as upper classmen ... but not much depth at guard anyway. Unless something has miraculously changed with these two, these are not SEC caliber starters, and surely Hood (and later Stone or Fulton in the Fall) will replace them.

Does anyone know if Douglas will be back this year or at all? I lost track of him from a month or so ago ...

First day of spring practice footage.

Anyone else notice a difference between what you see and hear in the practice versus the spring practices last year?

Off the top of my head ...

(1) Less intense ... less shouting ... less grunting ... less effort ... less cursing ... less hitting
(2) More teaching

Then I looked at a similar video from last year ...

And my impression is slightly changed:

(1) Less intense ... less shouting ... less grunting ... much less horns
(2) Much more teaching

Also, I don't see any former players on the sidelines watching. It is almost as if they aren't allowed to watch the practices ... :P

Janzen Jackson seemed to imply that Dooley's staff was better prepared and organized than Kiffin's from 2009.

"With the new coaches and stuff, everybody had a lot of enthusiasm. It was a quick pace - a change from last year which, it took a little bit longer and was more strenuous. This year was a quick pace and everything was smooth." (Janzen Jackson, March 18, 2010 after practice)

And, a Kiffin quote from 2009 after his first day of practice:

"When you guys watch our practices, [we want you] to walk away saying that this is the ... the most organized practice that we've ever seen."

Sounds like Dooley beat Kiffin on that point.

And I think that spring is more about teaching and fall is more about teaching and conditioning and intensity.....just a guess, though.....
