TE
Pittsburgh TE Dorin Dickerson didn’t lose any time off his very quick 40-yard runs during the first on-field workout at this week’s scouting combine in Indianapolis. Dickerson was officially credited with a WR like time of 4.40 seconds for the 40. Miami TE Jimmy Graham also ran well with an official time of 4.56 seconds, while Oregon’s Ed Dickson ran a 4.67, and Missouri State’s Clay Harbor, Iowa’s Tony Moeaki and Penn State’s Andrew Quarless all tied at 4.69. Meanwhile, pro scouts are hoping for a little more excitement when the QBs take the field later today after 16 of the 19 players at the position in Indianapolis declined to participate in the bench press. Of course, given the fact that top prospects like Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford, Jimmy Clausen of Notre Dame, Texas’ Colt McCoy, and Florida’s Tim Tebow have already said they won’t be throwing at today’s workout has taken a lot of the luster off the event. Meanwhile, Dan LeFevour of Central Michigan, who received a lot of criticism when he announced he also wouldn’t participate in the throwing drills, has reportedly changed his mind and will throw, but reportedly only to CMU receivers. The QBs that do participate fully will take the field with the RBs and WRs later today with the usual coverage by the NFL Network.

WR
Ford, Banks flash speed at WR workout ... As expected, Clemson WR Jacoby Ford, a world-class sprinter who just happens to also play football for the Tigers, posted the fastest 40 time in the first group of WRs running at the scouting combine in Indianapolis this morning. Ford wasn't able to beat Tennessee RB Chris Johnson's record of 4.24 seconds, but did post a very quick unofficial time of 4.27 seconds. Meanwhile, Kansas State WR/KR Brandon Banks ran under 4.40 seconds while Marcus Easley of UConn had an unofficial time around 4.4. Illinois' Arrelious Benn also had a good showing posting an unofficial clocking of just under 4.5 seconds running at 220 pounds. On the other hand, Cincinnati's Mardy Gilyard was timed in only around 4.57 seconds unofficially, while Dezmon Briscoe of Kansas clocked in the 4.6 range. And again these are unofficial times which can be anywhere from 0.05 to 0.10 seconds slower official times.

Notre Dame WR Golden Tate likely helped himself when he ran a sub-4.4 40 with an unofficial time of 4.36 at the scouting combine down the road in Indianapolis. Less heralded Kyle Williams of Arizona also had an unofficial clocking of 4.36, while other 40 times of note in the early going among the second group of WRs include a fast, unofficial clockings of 4.40 by Andre Roberts of the Citadel, 4.43s by Taylor Price of Ohio and SMU's Emanual Sanders, while 6-3, 215-pound South Florida junior Carlton Mitchell clocked an unofficial 4.44. The latter duo, though, probably had actually hoped for somewhat better times. At the same time, Mike Williams of Syracuse had a 4.49 time, while Damian Williams of USC had an unofficial clocking of 4.53. On the other hand, LSU's Brandon LaFell could only stop the clock in an unofficial 4.60, while Jordan Shipley of Texas ran an unofficial 4.57 and Tulane's Jeremy Williams struggled to a 4.63.

Vols at the NFL Combine and their measurements:

Berry, Eric SS 6'0"211 Tennessee- much bigger than most thought he would be.
Hardesty, MontarioRB 6'0"225 Tennessee-
Rogan, DennisFS 5'9"185 Tennessee-
Scott, ChrisOL 6'4"319 Tennessee- his stock has plummeted - he will not be drafted IMO.
Williams, DanDT 6'2"327 Tennessee - mid first round pick.

Montario Hardesty is having one hell of a Combine performance today. He may move into the mid-early 3rd round with his performance.

4.49 forty
21 reps on the bench
10'6" broad jump
41.4 vertical jump

These folks were not impressed with Hardesty

The buzz was all about Jahvid Best, CJ Spiller, and Joe McKnight.

Dan Williams just ran a 5.17. Not bad for a nose tackle.
