I just noticed this title to a story, and got to thinking that this didn't feel like any sort of upset ... it would have felt like an upset had the Vols lost, however. Didn't the majority of fans think that UT was favored to win this game - at least 60% of the Yahoo Pick-em thought TN would win? Most sports writers I read were predicting a Vol win, and didn't Vegas put USC Jr. as underdogs? Now, of course, the title of this article is based on the imaginary rankings system ... but, seriously, what constitutes an upset is that a significant consensus believes Team A will beat Team B ... and Team B emerges victorious ... and not a poll ranking. Right? Or do I need to go back to bed? |

I'm not sure it really would have been an upset if Carolina had won. I can't imagine most people would've been truly shocked either way. It was a nice win at home for a team who deserved a nice win. The uniforms looked good...Neyland looked like fun. Just a good night all the way around. Carolina had one of those games that reminded me of a Fulmer. I don't think we killed them; they simply killed themselves. Good win, but certainly not an upset either way. |

Frankly the only upset I'm feeling is that the offense wasn't terribly productive last night. SC had a VERY good defense, which is part of that.....but I honestly figured we'd throw up about 250 yards on the ground, particularly given the weather. Jansen Jackson must have dynamite in his shoes.....between he and EB, they are crushing people like I've never seen people get crushed. Rico is a hitter....but these two are crushers. I think that's the first long pass for a touchdown this year and Rogan really had pretty good coverage...it was just a perfect pass and catch. I wonder....when they compute scoring defense, do they count all the kick runbacks and returned interceptions and stuff? Dan Williams completely disrupted the line of scrimmage....we gave up a lot of short passes, but that seems to be where we are willing to bend in order to throttle the run and the long passes. Offensively, Crompton wasn't very accurate in the second half....I guess the rain and the pass rush had something to do with that. His pass to Cottam was huge and very well thrown, however. If Hardesty weighed ten more pounds and kept his speed, he would be a first round pick imo. The guy just will not go down after one hit. The spin move on that second td handed one cock his jock and should be on some highlight clips today. CAN WE BEAT OLE MISS???? That's the next big question. If we can and come out of this season at 8-4 all will right in big black er.......orange country. FWIW, I really liked the black jerseys. I really like how we got the black jersies (Montario and Eric going to Hammy and asking and the powers that be saying yes, despite the fact that some folks with perpertual sticks in their asses were going to how)l. Kiffin said it best....."it's the player's game". Recruits are watching UT like UT hasn't been watched in a decade and for them to know that they will play the moment they are ready to play & that the university respects the players enough to honor a wish that makes a hell of a lot of sense and imo looked pretty cool, is huge in the recruiting wars. Much like Pearl.....Kiffin "gets it". At age 34, he could have a huge run here at UT if we can keep him.............. Edited by JollyVolly, Nov 1 2009, 07:42 AM.

Absolutely no reason why we can't beat Ole Miss. I expect another "upset." |

We we did whip the #21 ranked team in the nation and we were unranked. It's just that Vols fans realize that we are getting our mojo back and the rest of the nation is just now picking up on that fact. |

If we continue to play well, we will beat the snot out of Ole Miss. We are, however, still extremely capable of NOT playing well... |

Yes, we can beat Ole Miss. In fact, Ole Miss is regressing, and we match up favorably against them. Snead is having a poor season, aided by the fact that his OL is not protecting him. Their offense consists of McClester, and passes to Hodge. Their defense can be run on. I think we go into Ole Miss, dump Snead on his ass, and walk out with about a 28-14 type of victory. |
