Except for kickoffs, which are always onside kicks. He cites numbers in this article that supposedly back his strategy. What do you think? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1160256/index.htm Edited by BillVol, Sep 22 2009, 03:29 PM.

Unfortunately, I think that is the future of the game. Kids today do not want to wrestle with the strategy of the defensive, field position game. They are fast action and fast rewards. The game has shifted away from thought and more towards athleticism. Most kids do not want to learn to take a snap from center, they want shotgun, throw the ball, reverses and trick plays. Coaches must do whatever to keep them entertained. jmo |

In the almost 20 years that I've been playing EA sports Madden/College Football franchise games, Ive never once punted or kicked a field goal. If it works in Madden, it will work in real life! (this is more evidence of why I'm not a coach, as if the world needed any more evidence...) |

Was thinking the same thing as I read the article. But, as ever, you have to have talent to win, regardless of your strategy. Perhaps with great talent, this would be the way to go. |

Ask the Dolphins about kicking fieldgoals!!!...they beat the Colts everywhere but the scoreboard and lost...why?...kicking fieldgoals......what about the Titians the past freaking 8 years.....kicking fieldgoals and sending their fieldgoal kicker to the Pro-Bowl......Ask Fulmer..the king of fieldgoal kicking and the author of the book...(How to Get Your Ass kicked in Big Ballgames Kicking Fieldgoals)......If I coached a team with a good defense I would NEVER kick a fieldgoal unless it was to win a game at the end of the 4th quarter....... |

ESPN's Tuesday Morning Quarterback applauds no kicking. Cites some stats, too. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=easterbrook/090922&sportCat=nfl Edited by BillVol, Sep 23 2009, 11:52 AM.
