and it's going to be important, because while Kiffin will get a pass for this year due to Jon Crompton, he will be judged much more harshly if QB play continues to suck next year. I think our QB next year will be either Bray, or maybe a juco (Newton?). I just can't see Stephens being the guy because.... well...he can't beat out the wormburner, how good can he really be?

Thoughts? I'd like to see Kiffin just go ahead and develop Bray and go with him. By 2011 he will be a really good one.

Indian, do you really think this staff will make a play for Newton? After the Lamaison disaster I dont see them wasting another scholly on a JUCO QB.

The '94 Georgia game was actually Helton's best game as a QB, IIRC. Yeah sure, Stewart (James, not Branndon) rushing for 250 yards probably helped...but still. I think he threw for like 150 yards in that game or something (including a 50 or 60 yard prayer-on-a-rope TD pass). Helton would have been a very good QB had he the interest in doing so, but he made the right call focusing on BBall.

PS: Volgr, I think if we can get Newton, we take him. At least assuming we dont get a Scroggins or someone else to flip, anyway. The fact that Lamaison may be a liability makes that more likely, in fact, rather than less. Besides, we have scholarships to waste for the next year or two.

Kiffin said he would never waste a scholly. Now whether Newton would be considered a waste is relative. I just do not see where Newton will have any more of a chance to come in and learn the system any better than Bray would. I think we could flip Brunetti if we had to and I'd rather go that route than adding Newton....I just dont like JUCO QB's I guess is my main concern because they rarely work out.

I'd rather have another freshman QB, too.

now that said, as far as wasting a scholarship is concerned...dude, any warm breathing body is worth a scholarship at QB at this point. Hell, I'd give GSVol's old goofy ass a 'ship if he could throw the ball 20 feet...it would be an improvement rather than a waste..

It's possible, but IMO only if they can't turn a guy like a Brunetti, and if Lamaison will stick around or not. I do think they want another QB. I don't think Newton is the answer though. I can see a scenario where Lamaison leaves, and they have to take Newton.
