Vols Rushing Attack Showing Promise

For the past few season, the Vols rushing attack was so inconsistent. Our linemen were stalemated at the line of scrimmage and were too pudgy to move down the field.

So far this season, our rushing attack has been better. Our offensive linemen are leaner, quicker, and are regularly seen down field throwing key blocks. Once we get in some top notch linemen and build depth, our running game is going to be even better.

I can't imagine an offensive linemen anywhere in this country, who would not want to or consider playing on the Vols offensive line.

hardesty is a solid SEC type RB - gets his yards w/o a lot of fan fare - Reminds me of all those Alabama RB's - tough, tough runners.

You can't imagine an offensive lineman anywhere in the country who would no want to, or consider playing for the Vols? Funny thing I asked an assistant coach for the Houston Texans - one who happened to be a pretty decent OL for the Oilers and is now in the Pro Football HOF (and FWIW was given the game ball Sunday) - who has another child getting ready to play college ball the same sorta question. Had/would J. Matthews consider a place like Tennessee when Kiffin was installing the USC pro-style offense? Point blank question - and yes his boy had an offer from USC..

Now, were talking about a guy who knows NFL offensive line play as well as anyone alive - knows the history of USC and its OL. His answer was what you expect - the NFL will find you - regardless of where you go to school.

The NFL will find you, but their evaluation(position selected in the draft) of an offensive skill player does affect and has been affected by the scheme that the team employs/employed.

offensive skill player vs offensive linemen in the NFL?

position selected in the draft?

This started out about highschool OL - and the University of Tennessee and attraction, recruiting wise -'cause of the potential running game.

as to the NFL evaluation (position selected in the draft) of offensive linemen - why on earth did the Rams draft a kid outta Baylor in the 1st round when its obvious

#1 - Baylor doesn't run a "pro-style" offense.
#2 - Baylor hasn't won many games over the last 4 years
#3 - Baylor has changed HC's within the last 4 years - and its for damned sure Art Briles and the stick in the mud "pro-style" offenses have nothing in common.

Or how about a 2nd rounder outta Houston - Sebastian Vollmer? We're talking about the wide as hell spread'em accross the field Houston Cougars.. A kid who played for Art - and a year for K. Sumlin.
