we need more out of the QB position and we need to be able to throw the ball downfield. Wonder if that means he is considering a change . Ohio would be a good spot to get Nick Stephens a shot. |

I would not have minded seeing him in the second half vs FL. It was clear JC was no threat whatsoever, so why not. |

Yeah that 4 and out was particularly bad. Having seen JC airball it when under 0 threat on 3rd down was preposterous! Why use the TO? It was clear to any idiot (even me) that there was no way in hell JC was going to produce on a 4th and 6.

I think he at least ought to give Stephens a couple of quarters - give Crompton the other two and get a first hand look at who does the best. I'm really hoping that while Crompy is a better practice qb, Stephens is a better game quarterback and Kiffin will see that. Remember that in the Orange & White game Stephens was just coming off the broken wrist, so I'm not sure it was an equal competition. I just don't think Stephens could look any worse at this point. I mean we threw the ball downfield maybe three times and two of them were picked?????

Kiffin is the anti-fulmer. He's not going to play musical qb's. Obviously he doesn't think Nick has as much upside potential as JC (see WKU game) and decided to give jc the job for more than one bad game. I agree with that, especially after his performance against WKU. When and if he makes the change, it will be for good, not just to see if NS can do any better. That is good coaching and also good for recruiting folks. He has shown he will give his qb every opportunity to perform and won't fulmer the position ala 05 and 08. I think the position is open for NS if he can just match JC in practice this week. But remember NS did not set the sky on fire last time he started and made some really bad decisions as well. We have what we have and this staff has done a remarkable job with that. If flummo was still at the helm UF would have beaten us by at least 60 because JC or NS would have thrown it up repeatedly. No matter who is the qb, this staff will scheme and get the most from the offense that is possible. I trust them to make the best decision, they have earned my trust. The qb is not the entire problem. We simply have no experienced playmakers at wr. Jones, our best returning wr, can't run a route or even stay in bounds in the end zone BEFORE the ball is thrown. This in and of itself is proof that it was well worth $6M to get rid of fatass. Add into the equation the state of our ol depth and lack of a SEC caliber qb and it would have been worth twice that to rid the program of his failures. Damn, I wish I was a contract employee who sucked at my job so fucking bad that my boss would pay me $6M to leave. That should make ol' phill feel real good about himself. Evidently it has said a lot to other AD's across the nation. |

I agree mostly with what you say el jeffe, but I still contend that if we had Erik Ainge this year, we'd be 3-0 right now. |

What, no talk of Nu'Keese as QB? Shame on you all for not having confidence in our Pahokee offense ...

100% agree. As you can plainly see by looking at the Tebow film a good (even decent) qb can and does fire up their team...even receivers and linemen who underperform. I have no clue why Jones is running shit routes, but we had somebody open every play. JC failed to see them. I am not blaming receivers for this. |

In reading other boards yesterday, I saw threads asking "why Warren/Jones/Teagues/Richrdson were MIA?". I laughed my ass off on such unintelligent questions. Were any of those posters following the Vols the past two weeks and not know about Crompton? |

IV, Cheffie, I agree with you both. Yes, Ainge would have given us a win if for no other reason Urbie would have had to respect the threat of a passing attack. And yes, at least one receiver was open a lot of times and JC had his patented "Use no peripherial vision, hurry up and throw to anybody as long as they are straight in front of me, do not turn my head to see the field" qb methodology in full use. But, given the fact that we would consider trading a teenage daughter to ACORN for an Eric Ainge caliber qb right now and our supposed best WR is running routes like Otis Campbell chasing down a beer truck on a Saturday night in Raliegh the coaches worked a small miracle at BHG. |

Even when receivers are open Cromptonite misses them. He missed Jones vs UCLA badly, and on the pass he threw to Jones vs FL that was intercepted, Jones had about 3 yards on the defender, but Crompton threw a line drive instead of putting air under the ball - I have come to the conclusion he just needs to give the game up. He sucks at every phase of the QB position...stares down receivers, inaccurate, bad mechanics, can't see the field, late with throws, telegraphs throws, average runner, and has no leadership qualities. What does he do well? How the hells is this guy starting QB at UT? |

With Rick Clausen at QB we would be 3-0 right now. We can't score in the redzone because we have no threat of the pass. |
