Adams: Don't look for UT to get by on defense Adams stirs the pot with his latest effort. Adams points out that Fulmer's worst teams seemed to always field a good defense. He questions whether Lane Kiffin's first UT team will field a good defense and looks for the Vols to lose some games. I think that Adams is egging readers on somewhat, but he is right about the Vols defense being shallow on depth and not as talented at linebacker. Monte Kiffin can't rest on Eric Berry being out there and the secondary making every tackle. Teams will test the Vols middle this season. It will be our defense's achilles heel. We will run sideline to sideline well. The question is will our middle hold up and do we have anyone who can scrape and fill in the middle? If not, Adams may be onto something. |

We'll lose some games, but it won't be because of our D. |

I agree whole heartedly with Indy's rather brief synopsis there. If we lose a few games 50-6 can the defense really be faulted? They're going to tire if we can't mo e the chains. Having all the Monte in the world isn't going to prevent that. Honestly, I feel a bit for Monte. I always thought Chavis lucked out and was given far more credit than he deserved. The third and longs were a problem for years, but somehow, some way, I think it was the fact that the O has looked so bad for so many years that saved him. Sort of a comparably shitty thing and there is no doubt Fulmer's O has been worse than the D. The Phillestines cite Chavis' stats and while they were good, I think a lot of the cushion came from us playing some shitty teams. FL, Bama and GA always seem to struggle a bit with us. Not that they don't kick our ass, but last year they could've kicked our ass so much more IMO. Anyway, Monte will hear more shit from the Phillistenes than any other coach if our D shows weakness. Truth be told, we are not deep and still unlearning the Fulmer system. But those s.o.b.s do not care about fact. They'd jump at the chance to run the great one out of town without even a thought about the longterm good for the program. |

In looking at the schedule, we don't really play a lot of good offenses. That will help. The only good offenses we will play: FL - really good, but will miss Percy Harvin GA -Good - maybe. Big downgrade at QB and RB Ole Miss - Could be very good That's it. Bama will have a new QB, and some new OL. They will be oo, but more of a ground game offense, I don't expect them to have a dominant O. |

I would not look for Bama's offense to fall off any. I watched their spring game and McElroy is potentially better than JP Wilson, bigger faster and with a stronger arm. Julio Jones may be the best big receiver in the nation. O-line is solid, I would not look for a weak offense from them this season. |

Vols Defensive Line Sneak Peek We will be very fast off of the croners at defensive end. WQe will have to rely heavily on some younger guys like Montori Hughes, Arthur Jeffrey, Victor Thomas, Chase Nelson and Andre Mathis to handle the defensive tackle spots. |
