Offensive Line Is Key To Vols Offensive Success in 2009

The Vols come into 2009 with 4 of the 5 offensive line positions in fairly steady hands. They have not earned their starting jobs yet, but they are on the path to doing so. However, the Vols do not have a right tackle/road-grading mauler in place. In order to be successful over the course of a season, teams must produce a couple of good back ups to spell tired players a=or fill in for injured linemen.

Right now, the Vols don't have a dominant right tackle, even though Aaron Douglas has the genetics to be a very good right tackle. Still the Vols need to develop back up at guard and tackle in case of an injury.

We will see a much slimmed down line this season and will see a zone blocking scheme that emphasizes getting downfield and creating running lanes in the secondary. It will be refreshing to see our offensive linemen doing something more than standing up and pushing forward, hoping to move the defender and inch.
