This was the beginning of the end-the 2008 UCLA Debacle. The 2008 UCLA game was the beginning of the end. Immediately after the game, a meeting of the good ole boys was called and fisticuffs broke out during the meeting when one good ole boy reneged on his promise to come up with the cash to take care of a buyout. The decision was made....Fulmer had to go. |

TUX...this brings tears to my eyes....I have to confess...I have been a UT fan for 54 years...the past 3-4 years I enjoyed the losses more and more because it was just one more nail in Philmoo's coffin.... That being said....I and 7 others left the 2001 SEC Champ game and I told them that this game would be the down-fall of UT football and Fulmer will never recover....I believe I was correct when I said that.. |

The beginning of his end was when he annointed Crompton the starter in the spring with zero competition. Then, he proceeded to let him play 5 games in 2008. |

/disclaimer on Quibble incoming! /disclaimer off That's the END of the end, not the beginning of the end. I'd have to agree with the SECCG of 2001 as the beginning of the end...though I guess, arguably, UF 1999 (or the '99 season in general...) was the beginning of the end... |

Actually, the beginning of the end was the equity quote. He pissed way too many people off with that. |

I'm standing by my theory that the Jonathan Zenon interception was the true beginning of the end. Again, I believe had Tennessee won that game, an SEC title and played in the Sugar Bowl, that even last season would not have been enough to fire Fulmer just one year out from a conference crown. I heard serious rumblings after the Georgia game last year. I think many believed that Flabby Appleton might still pull it out if he ran the table in November, but the dye was in fact already cast once he was eliminated from the Eastern Division race and there was no way he could get back to the SECCG. |

Good point Lonzo. That interception was not only huge, it really tainted Eric Ainge in the eyes of a lot of Vols. JC deserved a lot of criticism, but largely speaking, I think we're really tough on our QBs. |

When our corners were 10-15 yards off the LOS in second half I couldn't believe it. Then we over mild resistance to UF. They just toyed with us after going up 3 scores. Didn't have to show anything...we never made many stops of significance. Fumbled a handoff that could have made a differerence. Struggled vs. NIU...score notwithstanding, UAB was not as big a cakewalk as it should have been...AU game last straw for me. Another fumbled handoff...no changes despite qb who was struggling. I think, listening to the UGa game...maybe we pull it out and right the ship. But dang, we're lucky not to be down 24-0 in first qtr. Then after all that, we're in it but give up a ninety -plus yard drive at end of the half to kill any momentum we may have had. That was it for me. PF had to go. As finebaum said today on his show, Tuberville, Croom and Fulmer all ran out of gas and when that happens in the SEC you deserve to be fired. Edited by rocketcityvol, Jul 27 2009, 07:33 PM.

Would that be Thunder who reneged? |

That would make sense Bill, considering the "Fire Mike Hamilton" hat that Thunder wore after Filmer's firing. :D
That is plain scary to think about. I think it's very likely that an SECC would have bought Filmer at least 3 more years. On the other hand, he could have retired after 07 if the Vols were truly what was most important. Not his career and legacy. |
