Kiffin Discusses Mark Smith I had not seen anything related to the Mark Smith situation in any Tennessee fishwrappers.

There's more to this than he's going to say. From what I heard, Mark didn't treat people right, and the players really hated his personality. You can even get a hint of it when Eric Berry says he loves Ausmus, and he "treats you like a human being". That kinda implies that his predecessor did not. |

The thing the phillipinos missed while attempting to crucify Kiffin for not "vetting" Smith was this: This coach will not hesitate to pull the trigger to improve the program no matter what. Of course given the inability of their idol to rid the program of dead weight and under performing coaches their collective handwringing and finger pointing was understandable because such a concept is so foreign to them. After 17 years of scapegoats and second chances the dismissal of a recent hire is unfathomable to them. In their minds this was proof of Kiffin's poor judgement, but for any rational person it was proof that this man intends to win and won't tolerate anyone who does not meet the standards this staff has set. In the past, Smith would have been given several seasons to adjust to his surroundings because, after all, we were a family and that was much more important than silly win / loss records. |

Excellent point El Jeffe and thank you Indy, I had not read where Berry insuinated that. I am pretty sure Eric is 100% on board with both Kiffins and would not undermine the coach. |

The cocks have a coach that uses Grecian formula and throws everyone else under the bus, and they want to criticize our coach for trying to bring in a S&C coach whose philosophy is more in line with his?

Well, they are cocks after all. But cut the poor bastards some slack, Vanderbilt has more winning tradition than they do. |

Those things might well be true, but I understood it was a conflict of philosophies among the other asst coaches that was the lead cause in us paying two S&C salaries. When you do something that severe, there is usually more to it than is explained publicly. Kiff was singing Mark Smith's praises all through winter workouts, then in the spring things turned sour at the workouts. We may never know the particulars of what went on with Smith's firing, but I have never heard of anything like paying two salaries for one coaching position before. |

Heck...there for a while Auburn had as many ex-coaches on the payroll as current coaches.

1) As I understand it, the guy who "vetted" and recommended Mark Smith was my fav (sarcasm included) assistant coach- David Reaves. 2) Smith was getting all kinds of praises- until he pissed of some Lady Vols coaches and then Ogre wanted "his guy" in Ausmus. 3) The Mark Smith thingie will cost Ut several hundred grand so quite the expensive miscue. David reaves is a failure until proven otherwise! |

No, no AV, David Reaves is not gulity until proven innocent. And as far as the money goes, you have been one of the main proponents of the fact that revenue will jump significantly with this coaching change, just as it did when Saban arrived at Alabama. They'll make enough extra bucks the first two home games to pay Smith off and have money left over. |

1) David Reaves is a Nepotism Boy and he sucks donkey turds- until he proves himself. He has been tried and convicted and sentenced in the AV Court of reasoning just like Knoxville Phil was. Knoxville Phil never proved me wrong and I will be shocked if Reaves does either. Frankly I am shocked that the media is jumping his ass big time with the Smith miscue and then with no QB coming to UT as of yet when Nepotism Boy is our QB coach. I dislike this guy big time and think he is a huge detriment to the program. He is also like the Socialism programs being put into place nationally- once in place they can NOT be turned around EVER. When you hire your wifes little brother then there is no firing him down the road. We are stuck with his ass until someone really crazy is willing to hire him away- and that ain't happening. That is just the way Nepotism works. It's a bummer! 2) Don't care what year but especially in the "Time of Obama", it is silly to just burn 300K at a weanie roast. That is a LOT of moolah at any time IMO. |

Seriously AV, we get it. We know you don't like David Reaves. Honestly, I like the opposing view point, but geez this subject is more tired than those linemen that carried Fulmer off the field. |

One would think that most "get it" as you say but I would bet you good money that if you asked 100 UT fans who David reaves was, then most wouldn't even know and it MAY be only 2-3 out of that 100 who know that he is Nepotism Boy with NO track record, NO recruiting at UT so far, NO QB committed to us yet when he is the QB coach, that he goofed on vetting Mark Smith, and that his poor communication with BJ Coleman is one of the main reasons he bolted. So as long as vast majority of UT fans don't know what is going on with this Nepotism Boy, then I will pipe up when his name is mentioned. He sucks donkey balls until he proves himself- which he won't. We are stuck with him for as long as Kiffin is HC because he is Nepotism Boy. |
