I watched the Figure Skating Pairs competition last night (and the night before). The Chinese took home the Gold and Silver medals, which they richly deserved. Such good skating.

While watching them, I couldn't help but think about China in comparison to our western world. I liken the 'West' to the old Roman empire in it's decline, and China like we used to be starting back at the beginning of the 20th century... particularly starting in the 40's. For us.... it's truly sad to see where we're headed.

I thought the German pair skated very well, good enough for a least silver, to bad the guy stumbled. But that is how the game is played, the Chinese didn't make a mistake.

I see the USA as the delining Roman Empire much more then Canada. Like the Romans, the USA is very imperical and that is starting to cause them financial problems.
China holds nearly all of America's debt and if called or sold, the USA would be finished, yet at the same time, the Chinese economy is very dependent on the USA, at this time. A very precarious relationship.

"at this time"
Yes, China depends on the the U.S. market for sure, but they are developing other markets and are growing nothing but stronger, as the U.S. wallows.

I agree, the U.S. is in worst shape than we are, but we are tied so closely to them, that we might not escape a collapse if it comes. I mean, I'm thinking of years down the road. The Roman Empire didn't give up the ghost overnight.

What could be done to stop the decay? Will steps be taken by big business, labour, the governments? It could already be too late.

Beancounter

The whole Western World is financially, morally and spiritually bankrupt. Combine that with the rise of Islam, and the future does not look very promising. And most of it is our own fault. Expecting the government to do it all.
On Feb 15 (thanks to Dalton McGuinty, at great cost to small business) Ontario celebrated: "Family Day". Once every year.
We used to have one family day per week!

I'm confused about family day in Ontario.
Beancounter says, we have family day once a year at great expense to small business. Then says we used to have family day once a week.. how can having family day only once a year be more expensive then having family day once a week. 52 family days can't be cheaper then only one.

Do I detect a note of sarcasm there? I'm sure Beans will answer but I think he meant that before .... all businesses used to be closed on a Sunday (a day for families). Now, we have a new long weekend in February with a Monday being a stat. Most businesses are closed.

Blind Canadian fekkers, Family day my ass, Its Wallmart day-- all the sheep take off for wallmart and spend their money -- Who benifits ??? Its not the Irish. Mc Swinty is off again to Israel to get more instructions.

Canadian Limpics another family week its only an illusion intrusion -- it's still the Chinese slave shops that make all the glad rags and the hudson Bay company owned by the israelites make the profit -- And all the idiots join in wearing red, waving flags made in china, like daft @#**en half head robots -- for the blood spilled in Palestine no doubt.

Now that makes sence.

We don't have a family day in BC, but Alberta does. Most business in Alberta stay open for family day and the people just take an extra day off during the summer when they can use it the most.
