Case closed I guess. IMHO it was a non-starter anyway.

I can see that Americans (too late) realize they have been duped.
The way to fix that is with impeachment, but they may not have enough support because the House and the Senate are stacked with Dem's as well.

Makes you feel OK to live in Canada with a minority government, even though Iggy, Taliban Jack, and the traitor Giles Duceppe are behaving like political A-holes, so what else is new?

Why does Taliban Jack support Harper? Because the pensions for his wife Olivia and a number of other dippers are not secured yet! Have you ever seen a dipper who did not like someone else's money? They love to get their hands on it.

John L. Perry via Bruce:

"Officers swear to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” Unlike enlisted personnel, they do not swear to “obey the orders of the president of the United States.”"

Mister Perry is just half right concerning his comment that enlisted soldiers sware to "obey the orders of the presidednt of the Unityed States" (sic). Enlisted members of the US armed forces are under no oblighation to obey illegal or unConstitutional orders regardless of their source. If the President of the US ordered them to murder innocent civilians overseas, or ordered them to go house to house and disarm the American polulation, enlisted service members can flatly say no to such orders. Anyone who has ever read the Uniform Code of Military Justice knows that.

I very seriously doubt that the Commander in Chief would ever give such a direct order.
Usually, that kind of order will come from some field officer as was the case of the Mi Li Massacre in Viet Nam and the shooting at Kent State University, which they did try to pin on Richard Nixon.

Jack Layton supprted Harper because Harper caved in on Laytons demads for EI reform and in doing so, Harper did not have to go whining and snivelling to the GG to save his sorry ass and his government.
A blind man could see that a mile away. Iggy could have made Layton the same offer, but Iggy refused.

Which proves that Jack, in spite of being a leftie, was smart to see on which side his bread was buttered. When faced with the prospect of money for themselves, (in this case the vested pension!) they get it right every time!

Not to mention the fact that Jack also knows that Canadians do NOT want an election right now, which Iggy (apparently) is TOO STUPID to understand.

As for your opinion about the Harper gov't, just what I expected. None are so blind as those who do not WANT to see.

Wrong, Layton was waiting to see who would make him the best offer for his support and Harper gave him what he wanted. Pretty good horse trading I would say.

Bruce:

Regardless of where an illegal order originates, enlisted personel are under no obligation to obey it. There were enlisted soldiers at Mi Li who refused to take part in the massacre, just as there were National Guard troops at Kent State who never pulled the triggers of their rifles. If an order is illegal and/or unConstitutional, no one, including the US President, can force that soldier to obey it.
