Ten year feud 'ended in death' By Sam Riches and Antimo Iannella August 07, 2007 02:00am Article from: The Advertiser AARON McLeod's stabbed and battered body, found slumped in the driveway of his Christie Downs home, was the culmination of an ongoing dispute with neighbours, police allege. Mr McLeod's son, Jake, 8, was asleep inside their home as his father was allegedly hit with a block of wood, stabbed and lay dying in the driveway of the Christie Downs house in South Australia.. Three people have been charged with murder and a fourth man is being sought after police were called to a fight at the address at 11.30pm (AECT) on Sunday, which neighbours said was part of an ongoing dispute. Yesterday, neighbours of Mr McLeod, 39 - mother and son Catherine, 45, and Craig Davidson, 19, who live directly across the road - were charged with murder. Also last night, a 20-year-old Port Willunga man was arrested and charged with murder. He was refused bail and will appear in court today. Ms Davidson faced the Christies Beach Magistrates Court briefly yesterday and did not apply for bail. She was remanded in custody to appear in court next month. Police said they were also seeking another man over the crime. Mr Davidson was undergoing emergency surgery for injuries yesterday at Flinders Medical Centre and was expected to face a bedside court session today. Detective Chief Inspector Paul Greathead of South Coast police said officers tried unsuccessfully for 20 minutes to revive Mr McLeod at the scene. "For 10 years they've been at each other, every week the cops are coming out here sorting s . . . out," neighbour Kevin Wright said. Police will allege Mr McLeod's Ford Fairlane was struck by his neighbour's Ford Falcon station wagon with such force it pushed Mr McLeod's car into his garage roller-door. He came out yelling, "look what you've done to my car," said resident Elaine Cohen. "There was a lot of swearing," she said. The shouting quickly escalated. "We understand he was set upon by (a) woman and possibly up to three other male persons," Chief Inspector Greathead said. Mr McLeod was hit with what is understood to be a block of wood and stabbed several times in the chest and back. He died in his driveway. Police said there "were a number of injuries over his body caused by a number of different weapons". The Falcon was towed away for forensic examination. Mr McLeod's son was taken away by a man believed to be his grandfather. Friends describe Mr McLeod, a stay-at-home dad, as devoted to his son, daughter and step-children and a man who enjoyed the outdoors. "He's a good bloke. I just can't believe this whole thing has ended in his death". State Emergency Service volunteers searched the area for weapons yesterday. A knife was believed to have been found in the Christies Creek. "Neighbours will often have disputes, but this one has gotten completely out of control," Chief Inspector Greathead said. |
