Handy Targetting "Glitch"

Technically, in the later games such as Legend and Anniversary, an enemy won't take any damage if the target area is grey and supposedly out of range.

However, it is certainly possible to inflict damage when you are supposedly too far away to do so.

I was perhaps one of the few on PC who struggled with Takamoto since Lara kept running in crazy directions when she had him in her target. He was running away from her and firing at her and it really is nigh-on impossible to run in a controlled way and fire - especially if you have to keep adjusting the mouse (camera angles). She puts her dang weapon away if you haven't fired it for a few seconds.

I literally hid behind a pillar, directly opposite Takamoto, side-stepped out just far enough and Takamoto just stood there with his weapon (whatever it was), lowered. When I aimed at him, he was showing as out of range but as you can clearly see from the following two screenshots I took, he was taking damage. Compare his health bar between the two consequtive images:

I have also managed to exploit this in Anniversary with the T-Rex (again, very handy because thrashing out 4,000 rounds on the keypad MANUALLY as opposed to having the repeat fire function doesn't do one's wrist any favours. Take it from one who knows) ;)

Wow, I never knew this! Thanks Lo! :D

I wonder if it works on the PS2 version...

No problems, Sing ;)

I suspect it would work no matter which platform you are using. Be warned, I am soon going to be heavily featured on Stella's TR site because if there's a glitch, I will both find and exploit it before publishing it. My bad? :P

I think Stella is to include my T-Rex glitch soon (unless she hasn't already done so). I don't think of it as cheating because most gamers play with a gamepad and us PC users need all the help we can get! :worshippy:

Yep! Mac gamers need it too! :D (although only Anniversary released for the Mac)

You're most welcome, Tessa!

I like to share these handy tips and tricks because in all honesty, many folk give up on a game when they struggle with the dodgy angles and so forth in combat situations. It's a shame because these games can be costly and I hate to see anyone, myself included, give up due to bad controls :(

I really must calibrate my gamepad because I am floundering BIG time with my keyboard on the next-gens. The fact I have to tap on the fire key repeatedly gives me a seriously bad wrist and it took around no less than 4,000 rounds on the pistols just to take out the T-Rex in Anniversary!

A grey reticule means an enemy is out of range, yes, but they're never too far out of range to inflict damage as you describe. The chances of hitting a target with a grey reticule are simply reduced, not eradicated completely. It's perfectly possible to hit any target like that if you fire enough at it. It's kind of like defeating enemies by attrition.

You're not wrong about the ammo.

It took a great deal to finish Takamoto off but, with the advantage of having him stationery, I was able to stop and roll a cig...check my e-mails, take a phonecall...the regular routine :imfao: ;)

I honestly doubt I could have managed this area without this glitch and in truth, I have not returned to this level to try it once again. It may be a fluke in that it was a one-off, most opportune occurence. Side-step too far and you trigger him into retaliation mode so I may just have been lucky enough to have a good "footing" so to speak and was in a very unique spot!

Thanks for this tip Lo, the camera angle is so difficult to control on the PC game so I gave up and carried on with the 360 and PS2 versions.

I do remember that Takamoto was taking damage even when it's out of range. Even some of the other bosses took some damage, so Spong was correct. The chances of having massive damage while out of range is reduced.

No worries, Max. I agree, the PC is harder to accomplish such feats on. It's xceptionally difficult to control Lara during combat on the PC. Unless you are an octopus :imfao:

I'm not sure they would have, though! She still runs around like a puppy chasing it's tail

Then she disarms if you haven't had the audacity to fire at anything for several sconds!!
