You're fine, Tessa. I have to be careful of my adjectives however...
![]() Now that you mention it, TR2 is really excessive with the shooting. It's not my favorite either... I prefer the colorful, unusual, and adventurous aspects of TR games. I'm very fond of TR1. It had a few humorous and heartfelt aspects, especially the end cutscene with the Tomb of Tihocan when Lara reads his tomb inscription. This line always gets me! "Look over us kindly, Tihocan." Yeah... Spong said it in his first post. So I was not the first to say it. I agree though. I'm not a big shooter fan. There boring at times. lolAnd don't worry. Misunderstandings happen, can't always be helped. That line is funny.

Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I cry. (First time i heard it, it was both!)Random thought - can you imagine Lara dancing to these two tracks with her Tokyo dress!? ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doqxy4gdOG0 - Song: Stayin' Alive by N-Trance (adapted from Bee-Gees version) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AApX5aHzz1Y - Song: Kung Fu Fighting by London Bus Stop (adapted from) and featuring Carl Douglas |

Oh yeah, this is a review thread! Kinda forgot for a second! Back to TR1 - yep, heartfelt moments. Technology does it rarely these days. Toby Gard managed to do that aspect justice in the early days. Spong was right in a way though. His role has been reduced significantly. Though Cinematics Director sounds like a big job, it really isn't because cinematics are only a small percentage of the game. It's unfortunate that the personalization is gone and is replaced with the screams of mass production, the need for unnecessary and extraneous marketing, and the begging for more funding. I hope I'm not boring you with my lengthy and poetic adjectives. But that's what I sense now with the present games. TR1-6 still contained some of the heart. Although AoD was on the failing half, it still had a lot more heart compared to the modern continuity. Random note: I don't know why, but something tells me that Eidos is trying to make the series fail. They've rushed through two of TR's most crucial titles - AoD and Underworld. Think about it - both contain an epic storyline and experimental technology. They both had good features listed and the displayed beta versions ran a lot better and looked a lot more interesting compared to the real thing. Does anyone else share my suspicions? |

Hi, Sing, I dunno about any Eidos conspiracy but according to a doco on TV, Tomb Raider has been quite the "going concern" for some time. It's been quite the "hot potato" in gaming terms. For my part, I have always preferred the original Tomb Raider games which boast some of the best environments and game play on the gaming planet!! I was surprised that another game was released, in all honesty. Sometimes it certainly does feel as though Eidos' affiliates want to kill her off so they can concentrate on their so-called "More marketable franchises". As the gaming world evolves, gamers per se demand more - well some do. But there is such a thing as overdoing things. If you introcuce "cool new features" then you ultimately risk having to compromise elsewhere - something I feel is apparent in the next-gen TRs. Lo

Well said Lo. You took all the words right out of my mouth. Another thing - did you notice that the sacrifice scene in TR2 actually used a portion of the Temple of Doom soundtrack? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFhAuTKBBWA NOTE: I was not influenced by the comment below the vid when I discovered this. It was by my own knowledge. |

Hi, Sing, To be honest I had not recognised the tune at all. Do you refer to Indianna Jones' Temple of Doom? Only it's been many a year since I saw that Yeah, I did note the lone comment there from "Superspy6" - what an apt name and yet a good observation from both of you
I absolutely loved that FMV though. When I first played TR2, not knowing what was to become of Bartolli, I found it side-splitting in terms of hilarity. I was sat there thinking, hang on, there are clearly no mystical powers to this dagger thingy - he stabs himself with it and promptly collapses in a heap and into the arms of his heavies
I honestly thought that was the end of him hehehe!! Talk about going out in style

@ Lo - yes, I'm referring to Indy. When I was 6, I freaked when I saw that. Now I see it a lot funnier than the Phoenix Wrong vids!
That stabbing was just strange! There only magic in the form the Dagger takes, not within the Dagger itself!@ Tessa - EXACTLY!

Yay! I've finally got my hands on TR1! My friend got it from her brother's friend, along with TR4. Not mine to keep, but I'm playing it nonetheless. ![]() I've just reached the start of the Tomb of Qualopec. That T-Rex was freaky! I had a bit of trouble finding the cogs too - they almost blend in to the textures. The controls are a little hard for me to get used to, but I'm getting there. No analog usage here. And I have to remember that foward is Lara's foward, not the camera's. Otherwise, it has been a very frightening experience.
I'll get to play TR4 too. It's only a question of how quickly I can get through TR1. I've only played for two days (with the nuisance of school, homework, etc) and I'm on the last level of Peru. Is that fast? |

Ahh, two of my faves. TR1 is my all time fave, but I'm very fond of TR:4. Funny, it's hard for me to play the nextgen games 'cause I'm used to the old cameras. lol |

I find it harder to play the new ones because of the camera angles (tried out TR:U @ GameStop - I kept on losing my good angles!) and the "originality factor". I don't mean changing the story completely but make the original concepts stay consistent - if not, then similar - from beginning to end. TR used to grasp this simple truth. It seems that this reasoning is slipping away in today's VG industries... What happened to that people!? |
