Hi all, Just thought I'd add this title I'm playing called The Infernal Machine. It's almost identical to the old-skool Tomb Raiders (Old-skool being the best games in my humble view) The controls are pretty similar as are the locations - which you'd expect from a game who's star is a relic hunter like Lara! There are lots of armed guards, puzzle solving areas, movable crates, wild animals, pushable switches and locked doors. Among other TR type features are the locations such as snowy areas, streams that Indy has to navigate with his inflatable raft (Think Madubu Gorge), temples, desert and coastal areas. The locations are quite vast in parts. In one coastal area you can see out to sea for miles and the water is a beautiful Mediteranean hue. Slightly annoying is the amount of sharks on Indy's tail and also, below water in a ship wreck you get to wear a Baracuda necklace (dang them things are annoying!). So far, aside from the raft I've also acquired a jeep so it's a great little game if you like the vehicle elements. It's important to explore thoroughly as Indy will need certain items to progress such as wrenches/crowbars and so forth to prise doors open. There aren't as many medical packs in this game so do be warned. You have to find money so at the level end you can purchase extra medical kits but occasionally, Indy will find the odd medipack but also available and often tucked discreetly behind rocks are clusters of medicinal herbs or 'Erbs' as Indy pronounces them rather comically These act as health restorers. It doesn't take many bullets to kill Indy either so you have to be mindful of his health level but if you like old-skool TR then you'll love The Infernal Machine (quite affordable but I had to buy a used copy from Amazon). |

PC only I believe, Tessa But I play everything on PC so it suits me but PS2 and other console users feel a bit let down. Oh and I forgot to add it can have a tendency to freeze on the second disk - if you are firing with anything a bit more powered-up than a pistol. But you do get quicksaves so can soon return to the exact spot you were at

I've heard of this game! Emperor's Tomb is really good too! ![]() There's a new one coming out next year. LucasArts never released footage in any major conventions so I'm assuming that they're releasing it in '09. They're really keeping it tight-lipped this time! They only released photos of Indy fighting in San Francisco on IGN! |

There was something advertised on TV concerning Indy today, but I think it was a movie out on DVD The more recent games are a bit more pricey. I wonder if they've gone all difficult like the TR next-gens can be for the keyboard players though...That's what I love about Infernal Machine. It's like they almost copied all of the TR ideas but for fans of these games that's definitely good news! I don't care if it's considered a rip-off, it just means more of the same Raiding only done by a bloke with stumpy legs His legs look dead dumpy when he's hanging from a ledge and shimmying

True...
Indy was practically Lara's predecessor. She's just taking up his helm for this century!

Haha! yes, you could say that! I reckon Indiana Jones came first, then it was The Mummy films and then Tomb raider but of course the latter was based on an actual game. I imagine that the writers for the Indy movies must have felt well ripped-off when the TR games came out. Toby Guard created the character of course. Lara Croft was a very original character too but it was the nature of her "Raiding tombs" that may have cause any bigwigs to feel like saying WHAT A CHEEK! Ah well, meh, who cares, I'm happy playing any such game of that genre so the bigwigs can fight it out amongst themselves hehe
