Okay, I though we should have are own review thread. ![]() So get posting! ![]() Pros: The most awesome graphics! I was blown away when I first started playing. Game play was just as good too. ![]() I liked the camera, easy to control. ![]() The environments are some of the best I have seen in CDs games. ![]() Enemies & the combat is very cool. ![]() The story was epic. But I think TR1 had the best story. ![]() Cons: A few bugs in the ps3 version. But not hard to get out of. ![]() It is some what short also.:( CD dose a good job, but will never be better than Core. I hate the fact that you can't reply levels. And you can't unlock but what? One outfit? If non. The puzzles where not very hard. Really, they are pretty easy. ![]() The replay value of this game is the ghastly. I think AoD has a better replay value. And that's bad in my opinion. (I hate AoD)Music/SFX.... I WANT THE OLD MUSIC BACK!!!! My advice is to get the game. It's worth playing. I loved it despite the cons. ![]() Edited by Tessa, Dec 6 2008, 02:51 PM.

Wow. Wonder if the PS2 version would have the same cons... Question - does TRU still have that photosharing feature? OMGosh! You can't replay the levels? A TR game can't be a TR game without level replay!

There's supposed to be a photo sharing feature since Lara now has a camcorder. With you saying that, something tells me that CD's removed it! I was excited for it too! |

OK. If it's not on your version, there are two possiblities: 1. CD removed it in the final cut 2. The feature was made exclusive to the 360 and PC systems (and maybe the limited edition packs) |

Nope, there's no photo sharing in any version of the game. Crystal (or rather Eidos because they forced Crystal to release the game early) dropped the idea. So the digital camera is essentially pointless beyond the purposes of an extended "look" button. But the photo sharing isn't the only feature noted for its absence, there's a number of claims Crystal made during the hype process that have since been found to be completely untrue. Multiple routes, dynamic weather supposedly effecting gameplay, day/night environment determined by your system's internal clock. Seems like it was all lies. Edited by Spong, Dec 12 2008, 12:10 AM.

Yeah, I was really disappointed with no dynamic routes. Another feature they didn't add was Lara's reaction parameters in different areas. She was supposed to have a harder time gripping objects and have more danger of slipping off wet/smooth surfaces. ( I watched vids on YT so it's not exactly first-hand) I doubt the tranquilizer gun is as effective as CD rumored... (None of the vids I watched used the tranquilizer gun even through the player was armed with it...)I miss Core, too!

Hand on heart, I've not used any other weapons in Underworld beyond the dual pistols and the sub-machine guns (once). I'm a bluff old traditionalist in that respect I guess, Lara doesn't need anything more than her trusty pistols, never has done and never will do.
That's what I meant about dynamic weather supposedly effecting gameplay. And you're right, it's not there in the finished game. The only time the weather seemingly effects gameplay is in Southern Mexico, when Lara climbs down the hole in the temple to collect the skull for the Mayan Calendar. Because of the rain, Lara's grip suddenly gets really slippy and a bit of Interact button bashing is required when descending the shimmy ledges. But that's the ONLY place I noticed it, and seeing as it ALWAYS happens in that very same spot I dont class that as dynamic. |

I remember that section. I wouldn't exactly call it dynamic either. Even the YT comments pointed that out. Hopefully TR:U's plot extensions (Beneath the Ashes & Lara's Shadow) would include some more. But based on these missing features, now I'm highly doubting it. Buying a game (for me) is mostly for the storyline and immersion, so for that I would give them some credit there. EDIT: just noted this - have you noticed that Eidos always tries to release something early when they are good features trying to pop up but never reach the final cut? It's like as if they're purposely trying to make the recent TR games a flop. Think about it - AoD was supposed to have a tighter storyline with flashbacks from LR and the dual aiming system was going to be introduced then. But Eidos pushed them to release it sooner and it ended up being a flop.Underworld nearly went through the same thing, but the realistic (correction: almost realistic since they removed the weather dynamics) effects and the storyline saved the TR franchise. Who knows? Edited by Singstar90210, Dec 13 2008, 12:35 AM.

And as they went on, the music quality deteriorated. ![]() What happened to Core anyway? They had a good thing going, shame they are gone.

I know. Have you noticed that the beta versions of the game end up running the best? It's surprising! |

Despite how disastrous AoD was, Eidos retained ownership of Core Design in its entirety for a further 3 years. But in 2006 Eidos sold Core Design's assets and staff to the independent development group Rebellion. Eidos still owns the Core Design brand and intellectual property though, including Tomb Raider. |
