So guys, I got the game about a week ago, and it's FANTASTIC. Everything I hoped for. I'll give a little review: Good Aspects: - The first person camera is phenomenal. Throughout the game you are succumbed by adrenaline rushes and the occasional "lean-to-one-side-to-make-you-go-in-a-certain-direction" thing while jumping. Brilliant.- The environments. WOW. It just has to be said - the most realistic looking world I have seen yet (although I have a rather biased point of view here). From rooftops to subways to malls and ships. The colour scheme is breath-taking at times - the odd splash of greens, blues, yellows and oranges amongst the white. - Controls. Although at first they can be a little mind-boggling, they are quickly learned and easy to use. It's deeply satisfying to pull off a brilliant set of moves. (And there's silver trophies to get too....I have one so far). - Hint system. Runner's Eye and that faithful hint button. The button isn't too revealing at all - it simply points the camera in the direction you should be heading. Runner's Eye (red objects) is to "allow the player to see the world as the Runner's see it." And yes, you can turn it off but seriously, it's a life-saver. Sometimes you do actually need it, or you'd have no idea where to go. - Unlockables! Yay! From artwork to cinematics/videos to music, they've got it all. - Music. It's so beautiful! It adds more to the environments, and gives the right mood. I suppose sound effects could be added here too - there aren't much but it is still good. Although I have to say that falling off a building into the streets makes a very sickening realistic sound. - No Hub. This works so well with the first-person perspective. Not even a health bar. You know if Faith's hurt by the colours suddenly fading and becoming washed out. If everything's black and white, you know you're in trouble. It gives the whole game such a realistic view, it's a very good aspect. Bad Aspects: - Cinematics between levels. Although I don't have much of a problem with them, other people may do, so I'll put them here. The cinematics between the levels are done in a 3D cartoon, and although the animation is pretty good, it apparently gives the feel of it becoming "unreal" and "cartoony". I don't feel this way, but maybe some of you will. - A.I. Apparently they aren't the smartest around, but I never noticed. They are very annoying though, which is probably what the Devs aimed for, but it's enough to really tick you off at times. Taking on 5 heavily armed SWAT and trying not to shoot any bullets for a trophy is very tricky. And although I like a challenge, doing the same section over and over again is not my idea of fun. In the end I just shot 'em down. Much better. - Short gameplay. Most games seem to have this problem now. Although it's probably due to the fast-paced gameplay and the storyline, it has to be noted. Not much replayability either I've heard, but that won't stop me playing it over and over again. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. I'd shout it from the rooftops.

I agree with the cinematic part, they are quite stylish and the animation is quite good but they really do seem out of place at times. I would have preferred it if they kept the cutscenes in the in-game graphics. ![]() Oh, and the SWAT teams can be annoying when you're trying to get the no weapons achievement/trophy; I always tried to lure them towards me one at a time so that they wouldn't kill me with a cheap hit, but it was quite annoying at times because my sister would always say "Just bloody shoot them! Why aren't you using the gun!?! JUST SHOOT THEM!!!". It took me at least eight tries to get past all those SWAT members in the boat level (the ones you encounter when you get out of the truck). ^.^; |

Agree about the cinematics and the combat there. The animation's way too outlandish for me, but they're not too bad when it comes to running quality. The combat's also pretty uneven when it comes to the overwhelming groups of SWAT agents. But the moves compensate for that. I love the way Faith moves and the adrenaline rush you get. Reminds me a lot of the exhilirating feeling I get whenever I do martial arts. I've only played a small bit of the game (and the pre-release vids and rave walling competitions), but it's really good. I want to buy it so bad!

A fantastic game, ruined on the PC because it tries to force you to buy an Xbox360 pad for it. It's not possible to play using any other pad because the axis and rotation on the analogues is both swapped and inverted. I tried playing it using keyboard & mouse, but that felt just so horrific. I'm gutted. Edited by Spong, Feb 26 2009, 10:18 PM.

Something random I discovered just now on ME - I was playing the Jacknife level, and I'd just finished chasing him (y'know, when he gets into the elevator?) and I stopped in my lift without pressing the button so I could eat something, and then suddenly this happy-chappy music starts up in the elevator. Go ahead and try it - it's so random. I don't know if the music has any importance or anything, it appears to be just a random easter egg. Thought I'd share it, since I can't find any note on this anywhere else. Yay, my second found easter egg! |
