Well the TR1 thread soon has some soundtracks implemented! So why not devote one to soundtracks? Basically I love all of them period. My favorites I like to use are AoD and Legend. How about you? If you really love the tracks so much you just want to keep them in your laptop/iPod, try this website! Planet Lara | Soundtracks TR1 - Underworld Press "Download Soundtrack" and you'll get a list of albums from TR1 to the upcoming TR game, Underworld! Also check out their ambient tracks set. Really nice compilation!

Due to technical complications his account was deleted. Posted by Randy: TR 1, 2, and 3 had nice soundtracks. I really like the main theme for AOD although I refused to play that game because of the controls. I shouldn't post this because it will look like professional jealousy, but I wasn't that fond of the Underworld theme. Most people raved about the soundtrack but I failed to hear anything spectacular about it. The main thing about the music from the first three games is that it is memorable. Whenever I hear a certain tune, I can recall just where I was in that game when I heard it. That's how you measure good music. Edited by Tessa, Dec 15 2008, 10:16 PM.

@Randy - I did not like the TR:U theme much ether. I have the TR1, TR2 & TR3 themes on my iPod, and listen to them all the time. The music is like my favorite part of the game! I would give anything for them to get Nathan back. ![]() Edit: The old music had a feel to it, that sparks my imagination.... It makes me feel in such a way that can't be put to words... I'm pretty much with Randy on this one. TR1 & 3 had amazing soundtracks. TR2 less so because it plagiarised too much from TR1 and most of the tracks were too short and incidental, but it still had its moments. I've go to say I've never really been keen on the title theme for TR2 though, despite the niceness of its choruses, it just sounds out of tune. But the greatness of the first three games' music, nowadays, comes down to the memories they evoke for me. I listen to TR1, 2 or 3's soundtrack and I'm right back there, lost in those caves, alone and completely in awe. There's not much I can really say about Last Revelation and Chronicles' soundtracks except they were all incidental pieces and too short for my liking, I'm indifferent. AoD's soundtrack, for me, was completely over the top and far too ambitious. It's easily my least favourite soundtrack of the series. But I partly put that dislike down to the game itself. I really didn't appreciate having a 72-piece orchestra constantly following me around as I explored and announcing every new area or every door I opened. It was overcooked, in comparison to the original games' simplistic use of glockenspiels, flutes and oboes, AoD's score was unnecessarily orchestral and dramatic all the time. Legend's soundtrack is my joint-second least favourite, I never keyed-in to the whole Celtic theme. All that annoying warbling and whistling just never sat right with me, and when it wasn't doing that it was filling my ears with bass and ridiculous techno to accompany the endless gunfights. Anniversary is another soundtrack I'm really rather indifferent about. The only tracks I tend to listen to are the ones that take their inspiration from the original TR. The Bear's Theme and Raptor Theme are fantastic reworkings, and the Egypt Main Theme has a great Arabian feel to it, but those are the only jewels in a soundtrack of coal. And finally on to Underworld, my other second least favourite soundtrack. Of the 75 tracks I have, there's all of about 4 that I like, and two of those are written by other people; Gorecki by Lamb (the track used in the official launch trailer) and the piece used in the original teaser trailer (I can't recall the name or the composer). The various scores that accompany the Coastal Thailand level are very tranquil and fitting, that I can't deny, but I don't much like the rest. There's a pervading sense of tension in all of them, like something's about to happen or go wrong. It instils an unnecessary level of urgency that never seems to stop. Anyway, that's me and my opinion of the Tomb Raider soundtracks. Sorry for rambling and including three soundtracks that weren't meant to be included in this thread. Bet you wished you'd never asked now ![]() EDIT Yesss! I remembered the name of the music used in the Underworld teaser trailer. It's "Lacrymosa Requiem" by Mozart. Sorry for wasting everybody's time with such pointless information but that kind of thing bugs me. Edited by Spong, Dec 12 2008, 06:45 PM.

Due to technical complications his account was deleted. Posted by Randy: Oh no buddy, your post is anything but a waste of time, you made some very good points. I need to point out however, the main themes for the first three games is actually a re-working of one song. TR1 sets up the main Raider theme while TR2 is a variation of that composition. If one listens to the main theme from TR2 all the way through, they will hear the theme from TR3 at the end. It turns out that Mr. Mc Cree has done music for other video games as well as Tomb Raider. As a footnote to this post I would like to add that it's nice to hear from you again Spong, it's like old times, but not that old. Edited by Tessa, Dec 15 2008, 10:16 PM.

I completely agree that the theme for TR1 has become the series motif, that very theme is present in Underworld's closing cutscene, and rightly so. I was just never keen on the way it was reworked in TR2. TR3's main theme is second to TR1's, it's got a military air to it (in my mind) but it sits well. As for Nathan McCree working on other titles, I've never actually looked into it. But I will now. Cheers for the heads up Randy. And thank you for the footnote as well. |
