Apparently SM is accused of plagarism again. Only this time it's gotten pretty official. Jordan Scott's representative just sent a letter a few days ago stating that SM had plagarised material from Scott's novel the Nocturne to write Breaking Dawn. Apparently there were some similarities, especially after Edward and Bella's marriage. But something feels a bit fishy. #1 - I know that Jordan Scott's a slightly lesser known author. But I don't get the infringement if the novel is really difficult to find. #2 - It shouldn't be THIS easy to get the letter between SM and Scott's reps: http://www.aolcdn.com/tmz_documents/0803_meyer_infringement.pdf LIST UPDATE: #3 - I really don't get why wedding vows are such a big deal in the comparison. I mean every author loves to place flowery details in a wedding since it's the best time in a person's life and s/he experiences the overwhelming happiness only once in a lifetime. So what if the vows are similar? Vows are the same in most places - it doesn't matter how it's said. The meaning's the same - to be united until death parts them. #4 - Most of these passages have totally different perspectives. The Nocturne's written in limited first-person whereas Breaking Dawn's written with a mix of first-person and third person omniscient. Any more suspicions? Plus here's another thing (which I'll count as oddity #5). If it REALLY was infringed, then why didn't Jordan report this earlier? Also (oddity #6), she shouldn't have posted chapters of her book online in the first place! It would be understandable if it were just the prologue and then 1 chapter. But multiple chapters is going overboard especially for a preview of a future book! Even SM understood that when Midnight Sun was leaked! Edited by Singstar90210, Aug 5 2009, 09:48 PM.
