This is just a reiteration of a thread I posted over at TRF. But I thought I'd post it here too to share the "exciting" pictures of the town where I live. I went out and took a load of pictures and I thought I'd share them with you guys here (or bore you, depends on how you look at it). I'm curious to see if any other members have any pics of their hometown they'd like to share, if you have, don't be afraid to post 'em here. Anyway, on with my tour (click the thumbs to see the full-size image)... Firstly, my place. These are pics of my back garden and the road I live in, which is a go-nowhere cul-de-sac. My back garden is ridiculously tiny and completely neglected... ![]() Next up, just around the corner from where I live is the local shop and a big playing field. The shops look run-down and horrible, only one of them is open, the rest are closed and boarded up... ![]() While walking across the playing field I nearly trod on this little fella. Personally, I think he was injured because he made no attempt to move as I took the pics. I really was as close as the pics make out... ![]() This is one of the more depressing aspects of where I live. The town has a very large industrial estate and no matter what direction you approach it from the following image is what you always see first... ![]() Two pics now that are kind of irrelevant. The first is a pic of a sign at a local allotment, check out the name of the lane it's situated on (it's really quite a lovely name, not). The second pic is of a one-way sign with a sticker on it. I took that pic because it was me who put the sticker on the sign...23 years ago. That's how much things don't change where I live... ![]() A very long but kind of picturesque road that leads into town. What isn't conveyed in this pic is the stench coming from the factories... ![]() This is our town's war memorial and garden. It's quite possibly the most well looked after shortcut to the high street. The second pic is the house in which Dorothy L. Sayers died (she's a famous writer, Google her)... ![]() And now for a few of pics of my town centre. I hate it, it's the most boring place on God's Earth, but my girlfriend thinks it looks quite nice... ![]() We have two shopping centres in the high street, the Grove Centre and the Newland Shopping Centre. While the Grove Centre looks nice and new (first pic), the Newland Shopping Centre (second two pics) doesn't... ![]() A terribly faded information board and map of the town and our wonderful Town Hall. I took the Town Hall pic because I wanted to show the fake windows on the top floor, they're just painted brickwork (which harks back to when there used to be a window tax in this country)... ![]() And now some nicer pics of the town. This is the park behind the high street and it leads on to a river walk that goes right through the town. The play area in the second pic isn't very inspiring. It's no wonder most kids in my town grow up to be vandals... ![]() Okay, now for lots of pics of the most picturesque part of where I live, the river walk. I hadn't walked the length of it in years and I'd forgotten how long it was... ![]() ![]() Along the river walk we have what the townsfolk have dubbed "the duck pond". It's a really clever name because, essentially, it's a pond that has ducks on it (I like the last pic with the ducks resting in the shade of a tree)... ![]() The first pic is my local sports centre. Like the Newland Shopping Centre, it looks like something out of the 1970's. The second pic is my old senior school (that I hated). The third pic is the evangelical church I used to attend every week during my teens. ![]() Now for a couple of pics of St Nicholas Church, it's the oldest building in the town but it's not all that impressive because it's really small (in my opinion). I would've taken more pics but there was a funeral going on and I felt like I wasn't exactly welcome... ![]() And this is probably the second oldest building where I live. It used to be a mill, but it's a technology centre now. It's undergoing renovation and I like the way the local vandals utilised the scaffolding to put graffiti all over it... ![]() And finally, three random pics. The first sort of shows the annoying amount of wheelie bins we have in our town. The second is just a pic of my local supermarket, Morrisons. And the last pic is the only place I have in my town where I can buy videogames. It's truly depressing :(... ![]() -------- Anyway, that's my hometown. Sorry for boring anyone to death, but hey, I didn't force you to look at them. So, has anyone else got any pics to share because I'd love to see them

This is the complete opposite of where I would imagine your residence to be. I always figured you to be a big city guy but yet, it's more of a rural place and I like it. Very nice Spong, I'll have to put something together now so I can join in. |

@Randy - Hehe, I thought he was more of a city person as well. @Spong - Mwahaha, finally got to see where you live!!! XD What's your house look like? So one day I can egg it! I don't think I'll post any pics of my town, just to be on the safe side. But basically: my city is small and some what of the red neck capital of Texas, and my county is huge and considered to be the next Austin, and (slowly) is getting to be very modern. |

@Randy Witham is a relatively small town in Essex with a population of roughly 35,000. Essex itself is a rural county, most of the towns are isolated and only connected by the arterial routes that head into London (which is about 35 miles away from me). And that's about as close to city life as I'd like to get. City life isn't for me, I'm too laid back. Mind you, I lived in a village once and that was too slow-paced. So, as much as I hate Witham, I guess it hits the right spot in some respects. @Tessa You live in the redneck capital of Texas? Cool! I want to see pics of you and your folks sat on your porch in your best dungarees, each of you playing the banjo. I look forward to seeing any pics anyone has of where they live. |

My place is pretty small, but it's starting to become famous since Biden's VP so I'm hiding mine too. But I can post some photos of Wilmington, Delaware's biggest city, and Dover, Delaware's beach capital. My home's been growing a lot since 9/11 and for all I know, it could pretty soon be another major city in DE. @ Spong - You really did come off like a modern city person. I really love the town. It's really serene. I could probably live in a neighborhood like that. |

I was being a little sarcastic. Most of the people here - including my family - are very civilized..... But there are a lot of red necks out here. XD *Sigh* I don't even own a banjo, and I bet I dress better than you! I'll see what I can do about taking a pic or two when we go to town....... @Keiry - Orange tree?!?!

I love oranges. YUM! My parents used to grow tomatoes. They were very juicy and big. Now they grow pumpkins and hot peppers. I may consider making a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving...

Wow, those are lovely pics Spong. Somehow, I really pictured you in a place like that. Dunno why, I can see why you'd think it's dull ( ) but it seems to work well.I may take pictures too. Not of my street or anything though......for reasons I'm sure you know. I'll see what will happen. I'll go for a walk.I bet that the factory is really something more sinister, like the headquarters of the secret corporation where you work........
