Hi folks, Today, I saw a G4 review of Tomb Raider: Underworld on cable t.v.. The reviewer stated that this is a very good looking game and the puzzles should not disappoint but, there are issues, three big ones to be exact. #1, The camera is a big issue because it plays against you. #2, There are issues with the levels, something that has to do with confusion within them. #3, Bugs, and not the ones you shoot at. At times, when jumping from one column to another, she lands and stands on something that isn't there. From what I saw, she looked like she was floating in mid-air. In the reviewer's own words, these are issues that should have been dealt with. Out of a perfect score of five stars, he gave it three. From a gamer's perspective, do you think he was right on with his assessment? |

I take it this is the PS2 version we're talking about? If it is, 3 out of 5 is too generous in my opinion. I have to question the "out of 5" rating system though, it's not very good. They should be marking it in percentage or at least "out of 10". Out of 5 is way too vague. But I'd give PS2 Underworld a 2 at best. I've had no desire to go back to it since I stopped playing it. For me, it's worse than AoD. I don't know where the reviewer is getting his "very good looking game" opinion from either, he's obviously not played Anniversary or Legend on PS2 then. Underworld is not a good looking game (not that visuals ultimately count for much in my book). |

He was not specific as to which version they used, but the parts of the game that they showed as examples looked very good. I would assume that the review was done well before the PS2 version was released. I'm not impressed with her movements when she climbs up or shimmys across ledges. It's very unnatural looking, something on the order of a spider. |

She flings herself along those ledges with surprising gusto, I have to agree, especially while tapping the interact button. But the reason it looks so sped up, like I said in one of my other rants, is because the frames of animation have been cut on the PS2 (the framerate issues the game has in general don't help either). |

Eww, why did they even bother with making a PS2 version? You think they could at least make it to where it would be more compatible with the older gaming platforms. Hard to believe I'm referring to the PS2 as an older platform already... |

^^ I know what you mean. I still refer to the PS3 and 360 as "next-gen". |

Same here! I don't even own any of the current consoles (PS3, 360, Wii) and yet I'm still tempted to say "next-gen"! ![]() I actually have the TRU review as a podcast. I think they used the 360 version. 360 has the highest ratings and is the most likely to be tested by game reviewers. I think he was spot on. Eidos had 13 years to correct or reduce the most common problems in the TR franchise and they're still continuing to this day. Sure, other games have their kinks. But unlike Eidos, the other companies actually make a better effort at reducing them, like software updates, expansion packs, and in rare cases, rereleases. However, I think he needs to slightly modify his review with Lara's Shadow and Beneath the Ashes now in TRU's waterworks. |
