In TR3, what was your favorite part in the game? Mine was when you get the big gun to roll out of the back of the crashed cargo plane and all those dinosaurs start charging. |

On first play I would have to say Thames Wharf. Second to that, Nevada. Thames Wharf was, I think, the first choice of location I opted for after the tedious Jungle levels. I quickly tired of all the dryness of the jungle, the greenery, snakes et al. Starting off in London in a dark and wet environment was a great contrast. Oh and Lara was in a different outfit, at long last. I don't oppose her shorts and top ensemble but certain outfits bring about a certain ambience reflective of her environment and the catsuit just added to the sense of a cold, wet, dingy night in the "Old Smoke". Aldwych was utterly fantastic - in fact the artists did a pretty good job with all the London levels and I loved the fact that on the overhead platform walkway you could catch a glimpse of a tube train rushing past beneath you. It was windy, spooky and full of heart-stopping moments like that rabid dog that jumps out at Lara when she rounds a corner going up a flight of stairs! Nevada was very vibrant, very arid-feeling and very innovative all round. I was aching to get into that High Security Compound and when I realised I could I think my heart rate quickened!! It took me ages in that level to see the laser beam in the window frame and the moment I heard that cell door open behind me I went to draw my pistols...err DOH!

I love the beginning of the game in India, were you have to slide down the deadly spike slope. I just love the camera angles on certain parts and the fact that I didn't notice the spikes at first (sorry Lara...). Me and my cousin actually sing Surfin' USA when going down it too, it's quite funny. ![]() |

Fighting Shiva's fun! It could get so intense that I shoot the statues first before I go near them!
Aldwych's awesome! It felt so realistic with the platform and the train environments. My aunt from Scotland just came yesterday and when I showed her the level, she was in tears because it looked almost exactly as how she remembered it during her college days. She barely visits London anymore! |

My favourite moment from TR3 would have to go to the first time I climbed inside the UFO at the end of Area 51. It's the most inventive use of the flip-room effect I've seen to date and achieved that larger-on-the-inside trick perfectly. |

I nearly forgot about Area 51. Maybe Lara should focus on alien treasures. It feels like the planet Earth's getting devoid of any tomb valuables. Lara in the "Mines of Mercury" I also liked that Sophia Leigh level. It gave me goosebumps just trying to cross those narrow poles in the elevator shafts. It was also fun to try to dodge the helicopter machine gun and get the occasional (what I call) "Sophia Croft floating on a chair while Lara Leigh runs around the same location" glitch. Sing that's sweet that your aunt was reminiscing Spong, what is a flip-room effect?

I'm guessing it's how a room flips over. For example, in the Wonderland level in KH, the dining room looks like an ordinary room when you first enter. But when you enter the dining room through the Queen's garden entrance, it flips you to the ceiling. You can't really tell unless you go into first-person (Sora's) view and you look "upwards". I hope I got that right. ^_^; |

Flip-room is a TRLE term. It's an effect applied to a room to execute a physical change within the structure of that room, it essentially swaps the room for another. This is most often seen in action when Lara pulls a switch and a room's layout changes. It appears that the room you're in hasn't changed but, in reality, you're in a completely different room that's been "slotted in" to the map when the flip-room effect is triggered. But the UFO in Area 51 is a little more imaginative because no actual switch is involved. You climb up into the UFO and the first room seems quite small. You run around the central pillar and, as you pass around the back, a flip-room trigger is activated that flips the room while you're in it. The trap door you climbed up through closes and a hole in the ceiling is revealed that leads to the main UFO chamber. It's very clever and, like I said, really gives that larger-on-the-inside feel. |

Oh that's it! I get confused with other games when I hear flip-room. But I sorta remember that! My brother nearly flipped out! (no pun intended! )

Yeah, that Spaceship is a bit like the Tardis. I never once actually considered trying to backtrack to the entrance flap (which you say is now closed, Spong). Clever. |

Yeah. Now that I've watched Doctor Who a bit more, that UFO does look a bit like the TARDIS. I've never really backtracked a level so I may need to check out that detail. But I can never forget how my brother flipped out when he came across one of the hidden switches!

Which switch, Sing? The one in the Spaceship? I loved the squelchy noises underfoot I liked to imagine it was Tony B-Liar's face when I was stomping all over the jellified floor heh!
Who liked swimming with the Orcas? I didn't the first time I played but have subsequently made my way back up that loooong ladder and around the top to get to the Orca tank. I love the ambient whale song and the way they interact with lara. It's just such a touching moment!

You two are mistaken, there's no switch inside the spaceship on Area 51. |
