I know there's already a thread about the new PoP but I thought it would be a good idea to make a thread about my favourite prince (by the way, how many princes have there been? 3-4, maybe? O.o); the one starring in the Sands of Time trilogy. I love the story based around this prince and how the final game, the Two Thrones finishes Spoiler: click to toggle I thought that was quite clever.I also love the song "Time only Knows" which expresses the Prince's love and anguish over his love for Farah because of the events of the first game; in my opinion it's a beautiful song (that's why I've used it as my new signature). So has anyone else played these games and would like to share their thoughts? |

I've wanted to play 'em. But I haven't gotten around to it. Which one do you think would be good to start with? |

I've played the first one on my brother's XBox for a few minutes. Most of the environments are very immersive and the story sounds really interesting. I like this Prince. He would be handsome if he were a real person and he has a really awesome personality! ![]() Time Only Knows is a very beautiful song. Who's the artist? I'd like to buy it on iTunes (or make a radio station on Pandora). |

The first one, obviously. Otherwise you'll have a hell of a job getting your head around the storyline. I've got the PS2 PoP trilogy, they're great and were a Godsend in the barren, Tomb Raiderless years between AoD & Legend. In many ways, they're better than what Tomb Raider has become. |

You're right. In fact I've noticed a lot of PoP x Lara vids in the last few months. Maybe it's because of their acrobatics... or maybe the platforming style is kinda similar. I like the way the PoP series is going. All of the PoP's are different so you could actually have different memories of each one without making a stressful connection. TR sorta did that, but the problem is that they used the same person and two almost completely different life stories. So it's a lot harder to choose which Lara to accept. The classics and the present PoP are both good. The new PoP (the one with that girl who prevents PoP from dying during the game... I can't remember her name at the moment) doesn't look too bad either. |

If you mean the new PoP on 360 and PS3 then I'm afraid you've lost me, I've not read up on that too much as I don't own either machine. I've seen a couple of reviews though and it seems to be a mixed bag, some say it's good, others say it's bad. I'm not too keen on the new cell-shaded style of the visuals though, I'll say that much. As for the comparisons between Tomb Raider and PoP, it's inevitable. Both are based around 3D exploration. As for my personal favourite PoP, I'd have to say the second (Warrior Within). The environments were completely immersive and I just loved all those fantastic set-pieces running away from the Dahaka. |

Yeah, that was the one I was talking about. I'm not a fan of the cell-shaded system either. It's kinda attractive because it looks like an animated painting. But I don't think it works as well with PoP effects - in fact it felt like Ubisoft was trying to imitate the "anime/sketch style" from the early '08 release of Tales of Symphonia for the PS3. Warrior Within was another one I played on my brother's XBox. I think that's the one I remember the most from the Trilogy. I loved the cutscenes and the environments. I think this is where TR is "in a nutshell". This piece was done by Anleva from DeviantArt so all credit goes to her. It's actually titled, "Life in a nutshell". That 3D exploration aspect in (the present) PoP and TR is almost impossible not to compare. Even their gymnastic ability is almost evenly matched. Both of them are now able to do wall runs! (though the Prince doesn't need a grapple! )

A classic example of what I was talking about earlier. The Prince has the advantage not needing a grapple while climbing and wall running. Lara also has an advantage with something called an "anachronism"... Credit goes to Tozani ![]() For the translation, look at the artist's comment (pardon the Prince's last word): http://fc43.deviantart.com/fs10/i/2006/109/5/9/TR_POP_by_Tozani.jpg |

I'm pleased that this thread as been popular and that you guys are also fans of the series. ^.^ The first game, The Sands of Time is my favourite although I love the moments were the Dahaka chases you in the Warrior Within (I always panicked!). ![]() Also I can't see the translation for the last image, there's just a link to the image on it's own... ^.^; Edited by lilhanhan, Jan 8 2009, 12:10 PM.

My bad! I'll try getting the link again. (I wish I had that Mimi Miney sprite from Phoenix Wright. It works for these facepalm situations....)Sands of Time was good too. I was especially moved when the Prince described his experience of trying to get out of jail. I liked the excruciating detail about how much he was shocked about seeing the torture chamber. It was a short in-game motif but it was moving. ![]() Have you played any of the old ones, lilhanhan? It's pretty nice for those extremely simple systems. My brother has the emulated versions of the SNES classics. He also has the classic PoP remake. I was surprised that Ubisoft didn't use Farrah's resemblance for the Sultan's daughter. Then again Farrah's a very strong character so a damsel in distress act doesn't do her justice (resemblance or Farrah herself). EDIT: Here's the correct link. Sorry about that! - http://tozani.deviantart.com/art/TR-POP-32067002. (Again pardon the Prince's final word.)

I've played both the original version which you can unlock in the PS2 version of Sands of time and also the easter egg version in the same game; in the easter egg version there's a secret room with images of the developers, etc. ^.^ If they changed Farah into a donkey (yep, the new prince's donkey is called Farah! O.O ) I think they could have used her resemblance for the classic PoP remake; I know I would have preferred being a damsel in distress rather than a donkey... ¬.¬ XD |

Donkey or damsel in distress? I'd say damsel in distress! I'd prefer it over being cursed with the Sand of Time too. I don't want to turn to sand everytime I get stabbed with a sword! But then again, it's what make her immortal in a way. With it he can turn back time and she can find out that the Prince truly loves her because he searched far and wide for the Sands of Time and messed up his life because of it.I wish I can take Farrah's place now!
