Castlevania? SquareEnix? Surely you mean Konami? I like the Resident Evil movies, I think they're pretty cool and actually compliment the game series (even though they're not canon). I have all 3 on DVD and I'm really hoping the fourth comes to fruition. I got Resident Evil: Degeneration last week when it was finally released here and, while it's technically inferior to Final Fantasy: Spirits Within, it was certainly more in keeping with the Resident Evil series (which isn't surprising given that it's a CGI movie). At least it wasn't as painfully short as Final Fantasy: Advent Children was. Speaking of which, Advent Children is laughable. It's complete nonsense and it's way too short, there's like two battle sequences and then it ends! And there was some seriously lazy regional work done on it (or not done, depending on how you look at it). I absolutely fell in love with Spirits Within though, and to this day it remains the benchmark by which I judge every CGI move that has subsequently been released. And nothing has come close yet. Beyond those few and my favourite, all other game to movie translations have been utter tripe. Alone in the Dark, House of the Dead, Super Mario Bros The Movie; they're all embarrassments. As for Street Fighter II: The Movie, I've never seen it. It has such a reputation that there's undiscovered tribes in the deepest reaches of the Brazilian rainforest that know how much it stinks. My favourite game movie to date though is Silent Hill. As attempts go, it's easily the best. Although it did fall flat on its face because of one thing; Roger Avery. I don't care if he wrote parts of Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, his work on Silent Hill is awful. He ruined any potential plot and seemed to dumb everything down. Which is a great shame. Beyond that, the Silent Hill movie is a masterpiece. And it's incredibly violent too considering it only has a 15 certificate here in the UK. I still hope that there'll be a sequel though, Cristophe Gans can Ddirect again, but they can get rid of Avery. Edited by Spong, Feb 10 2009, 02:25 AM.
